Update: New Developments in Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Scandal

Update: New England Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini Scandal

The ongoing scandal between New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini continues to gain media attention. Over the course of the past few days, things have seemed to normalize. Patriots players such as Hunter Henry and Robert Spillane even publicly gave their support to Vrabel in recent interviews. There were however additional developments in the story in the past twenty four hours.

Mike Vrabel’s wife seen wearing wedding ring

People.com reported that Vrabel’s wife Jen Vrabel was seen wearing her wedding ring while heading into the Delta Sky Club at Salt Lake City International airport. The Vrabel’s attended a 24 hour marriage summit in Park City, UT which resulted in Vrabel missing the third day of the NFL Draft this past weekend. Vrabel was specifically quoted saying “My family needs me this weekend and that’s where I’ll be”.

Vrabel feels remorse for ruining Dianna Russini’s career

In a recent report from  Daily Mail’s Russ Weakland and Ben Nagle an undisclosed source proclaimed the following:

“Mike feels terrible on many levels, especially since Dianna’s career is pretty much over, and that blood is on his hands. He feels terrible that he is responsible and that she may never be able to work again.”

Dianna Russini stepped away from The Athletic on April 14, 2026, and it wasn’t exactly a quiet exit. Reports from ESPN pointed to an internal investigation tied to photos involving Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. The focus landed on both their relationship and her professional conduct. The situation then escalated quickly. Before her contract could even run its course, she resigned while a broader standards review of her work was still in progress.

New England Patriots head coach receives a standing ovation

Earlier this week, Mike Vrabel stepped into a fan Q&A at Gillette Stadium and was met with a warm round of applause. It did not stay that way for long. Within seconds, the energy in the building changed and the crowd rose to its feet. Moments later, it turned into a full standing ovation.

This goes to show that despite the ongoing scandal, the New England Patriot’s head coach still has a legion of supporters in New England. The fans in the video seemingly care less about what is going on in his personal life. They are likely more interested in if Vrabel can lead the Patriots to back to back Super Bowls.

Stephen A. Smith comes to Vrabel’s defense

Stephen A. Smith came to the defense of Mike Vrabel on his Sirius XM show completely dismissing fan outrage of the ongoig scandal.

“Mike Vrabel doesn’t owe any of us a damn apology,” Smith said. “He doesn’t owe it to us. He doesn’t owe it to his team. He doesn’t owe it to the players. The only thing, the only people he owes it to is his wife and his family. It is none of our business,” Smith said. “And anybody out there that thinks that this man owes us an explanation for getting his freak on, you’re a flaming hypocrite. Kick rocks the hell up.”

Where do things go from here

This scandal is not going away anytime soon. The New England Patriots head coach still has strong backing from Patriots fans, but support does not close the book on everything surrounding this situation. New details will continue to surface. Until some resolution is brought to the matter, this story will continue to make headlines.
