Seahawks Likely to Trade Standout to Haul in Draft Picks

The Seattle Seahawks have four draft picks this upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, which means they may consider sending linebacker Uchenna Nwosu in a possible trade. While the Seahawks have somewhat of a perfect team, they lost RB Kenneth Walker in free agency to the Kansas City Chiefs. Seattle extended WR Rashid Shaheed and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to new deals, so QB Sam Darnold is in good shape to have a reliable aerial attack once he’s ready to launch it in the pocket. However, it’s been reported that the Seahawks aren’t looking to adjust Nwosu’s contract, and he’s set to become a free agent in 2027.

The 29-year-old is still a good player, but the team probably wants to rebuild soon after at least two more seasons, especially since they just won the Super Bowl. It doesn’t mean many changes will happen on offense, but if they receive an appealing offer, the team will likely listen. Seattle would save $11.5 million in cap space if they trade Nwosu.

Since the Seahawks aren’t being flexible with Nwosu, and he’s set to become free, the team should be able to get something out of him. Seattle should only trade him if they acquire at least two draft picks in the third and fourth rounds. With those additional picks, they should be able to find a new starting running back.

Seahawks Likely to Trade Standout Uchenna Nwosu to Haul in Draft Picks

It doesn’t mean that new starter Zach Charbonnet is bad, but he’s coming off an injury from last season. The Seahawks have plenty of defensive weapons, including Demarcus Lawrence and Ernest Jones, so they’re still in good shape. The upside is that they save money and get draft capital to rebuild the running room, so here are three teams that could make an offer.

Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

Despite bringing back Khalil Mack for another season, the Chargers might have to consider Nwosu. The team must realize that Mack has been mulling retirement for the past two years, and if they fail once again in their journey to the Super Bowl, the edge rusher will finally call it a career. While they have Tuli Tuipulotu, who broke out last year, the Chargers would benefit from adding more firepower and mixing Nwosu in the same unit.

If the Chargers can swallow their pride and be willing to give up some picks for Nwosu, they should take it.

Dallas Cowboys

Last season, Dallas had one of the worst pass-rushing units in the league between Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray, who aren’t on the team anymore. The Cowboys traded for Rashan Gary, and while that’s somewhat of a decent pickup, it would’ve been smarter to wait to acquire him in free agency. Still, the team needs to address the linebacker unit, and Nwosu has the explosiveness to turn this defense up. It’s unlikely they will send their extra first-round pick for Nwosu, but they could use the extra third-round pick they got after trading Osa Odighizuwa to San Francisco.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Ravens lost Dre’Mont Jones to the Patriots in free agency. Baltimore may have Teddye Buchanan and Mike Green to step up, but the team performs better when they acquire veterans to increase its chances for postseason success. Nwosu is a perfect fit for Baltimore, who could ramp up the defense and put Lamar Jackson in the driver’s seat to stay on the field.
