Background:

Committing to Arizona as a freshman, Davis appeared in only a handful of games that season. However, as a sophomore starting cornerback, he had a breakout year, recording 25 tackles and one interception. He led the PAC-12 Conference that year with 15 PBUs and 16 pass defenses.

The following season, Davis started 11 of 12 games, posting 44 tackles and six pass deflections. He earned 2024 second-team All-Big 12 honors. Davis was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Utah, when he posted five pass breakups. After being recognized as a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, Davis entered the transfer portal to reunite with his former Arizona head coach, Jedd Fisch, at Washington.

However, their happy reunion was short-lived. Davis suffered a serious rib injury on September 6, 2025, that caused him to miss most of the 2025 season. Despite appearing in only seven games, he earned honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition with 19 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.

A Standout At The NFL Combine:

With estimates as high as 76 and as low as the 160 range, Davis was projected as a mid-round prospect. But that was before his impressive Combine performance. Determined to show the physicality and durability that characterized his previously successful collegiate career, Davis made an impressive showing at the NFL Combine. Suddenly, his physical stature, packaged with a superior 4.41 40-yard dash (1.59 10-yard split), a 37” vertical jump, and a 10’3” broad jump, got the attention of NFL scouts.

NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein reported that “Davis is more disruptive than productive with size, length, and strength to reroute releases from press.” However, he noted that, “His long arms help him defend throws from deep zone and make tackles in the open field.

Strengths:

  • Impressive speed when he reaches full stride
  • Height and long arms make him a terror for quarterbacks when throwing downfield
  • Impressive wingspan that allows him to wrap his arms upon making contact and tackling
  • Long stride allows him to cover ground quickly without much effort
  • Maintains good quarterback readability and visual tracking
  • Excellent ball skills with twenty career PBU’s and three interceptions

Weaknesses:

  • Despite his quickness, his stride length takes longer to reach full speed
  • He can be beaten off the line by quicker route runners
  • Too many penalties and grabby hands can get him into trouble

Best fits:

Green Bay Packers,  Miami Dolphins, or Pittsburgh Steelers

Last Word on Tacario Davis:

Nfldraftbuzz.com stated that the biggest concern about Davis is his lack of transition quickness, “He pops upright during his backpedal and gets caught flat when receivers snap off sharp breaks underneath.”  The profile also suggested that his height could be a disadvantage at times.

However, after viewing Davis’ Combine performance on tape, an alternate scenario was proposed, suggesting that a “team will look at his range, tackling ability, and ball skills and convert him to free safety, where his size becomes an even bigger weapon rather than an occasional liability.”
