DeMarvion Overshown Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys Injury Report: What’s the Current Status of 11 Questionable Stars?

The Oxnard training camp is scheduled to begin on July 20, with the first open practice set for 11:45 am on July 22. The training camp will end on August 14 before the team departs for Dallas and prepares for its first preseason game.

But before the squad landed in Oxnard, the status of 11 Cowboys was still in a dangerous situation. Will these players be ready mid-way and really for the upcoming season? Let’s break down the possibility of DeMarvion Overshown, Trevor Diggs, and a total of 11 questionable stars.

Latest Cowboys Injury Report 2025: Quick Overview

The list of 11 injured players includes 8 defensive players. And out of those 8 defensive players on the list, five are cornerbacks, and the other two are one LB, one defensive end, and another one is a safety.

The overall list of injured players includes linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, cornerback Trevor Diggs, safety Markquese Bell, cornerback Josh Butler, cornerback Caelen Carson, cornerback Kemon Hall, and cornerback Shavon Revel. It also includes tight end John Stephens, offensive tackle Nathan Thomas, defensive end Sam Williams, and placekicker Brandon Aubrey.

The Cowboys’ defensive squad, considered one of the top defensive units in the league, is on the verge of struggling in the upcoming season. Last year, the Cowboys allowed 55 touchdowns in the regular season. Compared to the Super Bowl Champions of the previous, Micah Parsons’ defensive team allowed 22 more TDs than the Eagles.

Injury updates of questionable/injured Cowboys?

Let’s discuss all 11 questionable players’ injury updates.

DeMarvion Overshown injury update

DeMarvion Overshown suffered an ACL and MCL injury in his knee during the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on December 8, 2024. Several reports suggest that he may not be available in the starting lineup to help the Dallas Cowboys in their crucial matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles

In a recent update on July 16, ESPN’s Ben Solak wrote in his report, “Expect the Cowboys to be cautious with Overshown… Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in April that the team does not expect Overshown to start the season, and local reporters have tagged November as a likely window to return.”

The reporter and writer also added, “I’d be stunned if we see him do much during camp, but if he really is ahead on his rehab, we could see the rumblings in August of an early return to action.” Overshown had a solid year in 2024, recording 56 solo tackles and 5 sacks, proving to be a key part of the Cowboys’ defensive unit.

Trevon Diggs’ injury update

Diggs, who had suffered an ACL tear in the week 8 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts, had spent time in South Florida for his knee rehab. He was also present for the mandatory training camp in the first week of June 2025.

However, the new head coach Brian Schottenheim,r reported his injury status on June 10. Schottenheimer said, “It’s going good. I talked to Trevon last week. He’s down in Miami doing some training.” He also added, “No timeline for his return. But he had to come back a couple of weeks ago to get checked out by the doc. All signs are positive.” So, let’s wait for more updates on Travon. I hope he will be there for week 1.

Josh Butler injury update

Josh Butler had torn his ACL in a Week 13 win over the New York Giants. But on July 17, the cornerback gave a sigh of relief to the fans who were nervous about the Cowboys’ injury report. He posted on X, “Ready for camp”. Butler had an outstanding performance in Week 12 against the Commanders, where he recorded 12 tackles, three pass defenses, and a sack.

Shavon Revel Jr. injury update

Stavon Revel, who was the 3rd round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2025 NFL draft, is suffering from a setback in his knee, while his week 1 chances are still hazy. An NFL insider, Albert Breer, reported on June 18, 2025, that Revel is still recovering from his knee injury. Shavon Revel Jr. suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a practice session in September, which forced him to miss the remainder of the 2024 college football season with East Carolina.

The point to be noted here is that, according to many sources, prior to the current knee injury, Shavon Revel has suffered from a number of injuries. His injuries include a fractured skull, broken nose, and broken collarbone, which he had broken in high school. Revel had also suffered a boxer’s fracture when he was playing in East Carolina.

Caelen Carson injury update

Caelen Carson suffered a shoulder injury in the week 3 game and missed four games. He finally appeared in week 9, played three games against the Falcons, Eagles, and the Texans, but was placed on injury reserve after the November 18 game, as his shoulder pain wasn’t getting any better.

But the good news is the defender looks ready in his recent appearances on social media. During the offseason, on April 15, he was seen giving interviews. So, to talk about Caelen Carson bringing the building down in the 2025 season, fans can expect a full recovery by week 1.

Kemon Hall Injury Update

Kemon Hall injured his hamstring in the week 16 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was added to the Injury Reserve for games 17 and 18. The rookie corner tackled six players in his third year in the NFL, and according to Rotowire, Hall saw all of his action on special teams this season, logging 123 snaps with that unit over six contests.

There is no latest mention about Kemon Hall’s injury update, but according to Cowboys Wire on July 19, 2025, “Kemon Hall, Andrew Booth Jr., Troy Pride Jr., Robert Rochell, and Bruce Harmon will battle for possibly the final spot and try to make an impression before the return of Revel Jr., Diggs, and Butler.” So, the Cowboys fans can expect Hall to fight for the major defensive spot on the field for the upcoming season.

Brandon Aubrey injury update

The 30-year-old kicker, Brandon Aubrey, suffered a minor surgery this offseason, per Calvin Walkins of the Dallas Morning News. In the March 4, 2025, update itself, reports showed a green light on Aubrey’s injury.

Markquese Bell injury update

Markquese Bell, in the Nov 19 game against the Houston Texans, suffered a shoulder injury which led to a season-ending surgery. However, throughout the offseason, Bell noticed a recovery. That’s why RotoWire reported recently, Markquese Bell will look to carve out a more significant role on defense in 2025, as he was a key part of the 2024 season defense.

John Stephens Jr. Injury Update

To talk about John Stephens Jr.’s injury updates, the Cowboys Wire reported on July 17, 2025, “Unfortunately for Stephens, his 2024 season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a torn ACL in practice late October.” The Wire also stated, “It’s the same knee and same injury as a year before and may even delay the start to his 2025 campaign as a result. If anyone has earned sleeper status, it’s Stephens.” The 25-year-old tight end John Stephens had suffered a knee (ACL) injury in October 2024. And the franchise is not quite sure when the TE would return. He missed the whole 2024 season.

Nathan Thomas and Sam Williams Injury Update

There is no specific injury update available on Nathan Thomas. But according to the Cowboys Wire report on June 30, “Thomas has a chance to make the 2025 roster as the Cowboys have issues at both tackle spots. Tyler Guyton had a mostly down rookie year as a first-round pick, and his backup, Asim Richards, doesn’t have a ton of experience, either.” Thomas was placed on injured reserve in the 2025 season.

And in the case of Sam Williams, he is expected to return in the 2025 season. Before the OTAs, he had also shown positive signs. Sam Williams did not play the 2024 season at all. To conclude, Williams is now working his way back. Let’s see how many of these questionable players can make it through Week 1.
