2025 NFL Draft: Carson Beck Scouting Report

Carson Beck went into the 2024 season garnering attention and hype as a potential top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He did not have the type of season many expected this year but was able to guide the Georga Bulldogs into the College Football Playoff, before missing the playoffs with an elbow injury.

Beck is a two-year starter at Georgia while joining the team back in 2020. He became the starter in 2023 and totaled 3,941 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions in a phenomenal season. In 2024, he amassed 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns but doubled his interception count to 12 on the year.

Strengths

  • Traditional quarterback height and weight
  • Solid athleticism to escape the pocket and run
  • Adequate NFL arm strength
  • Quick release and smooth throwing motion
  • Comfortable in working through progressions across the field
  • Capable of touch passes over the middle of the field
  • Aggressive thrower down the field, particularly on one-on-one matchups to the outside

Weaknesses

  • Questionable decision-making in 2024 with 12 interceptions
  • Hesitant to throw into tight windows
  • Can be too quick to leave the pocket
  • Inconsistency with his feet led to accuracy problems at times
  • Elbow injury to his throwing arm late in 2024

NFL Comparison: Alex Smith

Teams With Need at Position: New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams

Projection: Round 2

Bottom Line on Carson Beck:

Beck did not live up to the standards many had for him going into the 2024 season. He struggled towards the end of the season and made very costly decisions with the ball. While his hopes of being a top-ten pick could be done, he’s still a capable player with starting quarterback qualities. He is not a player who can single-handedly win games for a team, but he can be a solid piece to an offensive machine.

Beck’s best qualities lie in his ability to process and consistently hit open receivers in a rhythm and timing passing offense. While he has no Superman-like attributes, he can make any throw and is athletic enough to gash teams with his legs. However, his questionable decisions in 2024 and elbow injury will hurt his draft stock massively. It seems he lost a lot of confidence throughout the season and became lost as a player.

A team will have to work him back up to the point he was at in 2023, thus he likely will not be in the mix for teams with a desperate need at quarterback. The ideal place for Carson Beck to go would be teams like the Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks. Those fits would allow Beck to sit a year and get acclimated to life in the NFL, as well as try and regain some confidence back. In the right situation, Beck could potentially develop into a good starting quarterback down the line.
