Chargers, Chiefs May Pursue Surprising Pro Bowl Trade Candidate

If the Rams falter in this upcoming NFC West matchup, the Chargers, Chiefs may pursue surprising trade candidate, Kyren Williams.

The Chargers or Chiefs may pursue surprising Pro Bowler running back Kyren Williams in a trade. One report believes a team like the Cowboys could open a discussion involving Williams if the Rams lose this upcoming game. Interestingly, Williams could be a part of any trade discussion since Los Angeles isn’t near out of playoff contention. It’s a competitive NFC West so one more loss could probably ruin their chances of anything this season, especially already being at the bottom of the race at 3-4.

Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Notre Dame product is having one of his best seasons with the Rams on pace to break a 1,300-yard year. After earning his Pro Bowl nod last season, it’s no surprise why Williams would garner trade interest from a roster to help bolster the running game. It’s going to be a tough divisional matchup for Los Angeles against Seattle. If the Rams decide to move on from Williams, it would allow rookie Blake Corum to establish as the top-runner as they’re nearing the end of a regime since Matthew Stafford will retire soon.

Williams has 533 rushing yards and eight touchdowns so he isn’t going to be a cheap candidate for any team who wants him. Even though the Rams are closer to extending Williams than they are trading him, it could all come down to this Sunday’s showdown to determine that. The young running back is a threat in the backfield and he may be an unstoppable force for the Chargers or Chiefs.

Jim Harbaugh’s Run Game

After moving on from Austin Ekeler, the Chargers attempted to rebuild their run game by signing J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. The backfield has been taking a hit this season since they’re without Edwards and no word on when he’s returning. Jim Harbaugh promised a strong running game for Justin Herbert which hasn’t been fulfilling for a team that already has a poor receiving room. Williams doesn’t need to be in a full-time role but a backfield piece to help Dobbins as the RB2.

Dobbins would probably lose his starting job even though he’s shown excellent strides this season. Harbaugh might as well build a strong 1-2 punch running game to help boost momentum for the offense and restore faith in Herbert to keep passing the football. While they’re looking for a new receiver, they could improve the team dramatically by getting a speedster to move the ball and help create those play-action plays. Williams is a difference-maker who can help change the attitude of this sluggish offense struggling to put up points on the board.

More Help for Mahomes

Isiah Pacheco might be returning soon but the Chiefs brought back Kareem Hunt to hold the stomping grounds. Hunt has been excelling but he could slow down so it’s perfect timing that Pacheco is on his way back. However, the team shouldn’t rush to start Pacheco immediately since they want to keep him fresh for the playoffs. The Chiefs are 7-0 so they don’t have to be aggressive in moving the ball with Patrick Mahomes.

This shouldn’t stop them from adding a capable replacement for the long-term future of this offense. Clyde Edwards-Helaire hasn’t been doing much of anything and Samaje Perine is looking more like a rental veteran. Williams could be their future RB2 to help share the snaps with Pacheco. Both have similar characteristics in running the football and fighting for yards so this might be an interesting duo if they can make it happen.
