Panthers, Saints Trade Candidates For Former First Rounder

Here is how the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints are trade candidates for former first rounder, Treylon Burks.

The Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints are trade candidates for former first-rounder wide receiver, Treylon Burks this regular season. According to a report, one source believes Burks will head to the Panthers during his season with the Titans because they need more help at the receiver position. This makes sense considering the Titans already have plenty of wideouts after bringing in Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd to help the depth chart. However, DeAndre Hopkins might miss the first week so this could be a chance for Burks to carve out a role for himself.

Hopkins will be back, and if he still performs like he usually does, then the Titans could field trade calls. Teams may not want to bank on Burks being that he’s still young even though it wouldn’t take more than a late draft pick for his services. Many rosters including the Titans still need to see how Burks can perform this season, especially with star receiver Hopkins expecting to miss some time. It may be smart for teams to wait until the Titans cut him so they could sign him for cheaper but if they need emergency depth then a trade may be their last resort.

It’s easy to see why the Panthers may consider Burks in a trade midseason after releasing Terrace Marshall this past offseason. Bleacher Report says the Panthers may be open to taking on a flier after trading for Diontae Johnson and drafting Xavier Legette. Burks is another reliable set of hands who can contribute when healthy. However, it’s likely the Sants could sneak a trade at the last minute since they’re receiver-needy.

Chris Olave seems to be their only talent with raw ability and Burks could help as a quick reliable slot man.

Other Potential Trade Candidates

Los Angeles Chargers

Many should expect Justin Herbert to have a couple of rough games in the first weeks with the receiver depth chart they have. There are talks about Quentin Johnston that he may be a problem for the opposing defenses this year but it’ll likely be the other way around. The only wideout is rookie Ladd McConkey who has a lot of potential after having an impressive training camp this offseason. Many could expect him to make some noise early but it’s probably not enough to give the Chargers what they need.

Burks is no superstar either but it gives the Chargers another new set of hands for Herbert to work with. Journeymen DJ Chark and Joshua Palmer can only do so much to push the offense behind the WR1 so expect Burks to carve out at least a starting role.

Baltimore Ravens

There’s a clear indicator after their loss against the Chiefs that the Ravens need a new WR3. While it’s just week one, if they continue to see inconsistency from Nelson Agholor then it may force John Harbaugh to start looking for help to accommodate Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Lamar Jackson was utilizing backup running back Justice Hill most of the game which makes people wonder why he isn’t using his other playmakers. Isaiah Likely was on a hot streak after coming close with the toe drag to nearly tie it up, but he was already putting up big numbers.

If Jackson and the Ravens want to outbeat the Chiefs in the playoffs, then they should add a new wideout. However, they can only go far if they utilize all of their weapons but they should be able to with the addition of Burks. He won’t beat out Bateman for WR2 but adds competition around Agholor who is only under a one-year contract.

Dallas Cowboys

A new scenery may be what Burks needs since he’s still young and he may be able to carve out a role for himself under Dallas’ offense. They’re putting a lot of trust in Jalen Tolbert becoming their WR3 so they might as well start building homegrown receivers to prepare for life without Brandin Cooks. It won’t be immediate that Burks will start but it gives Dak Prescott a fresh breath of air in the slot.
