The Philadelphia Eagles’ season opener is just under a week away. However, they’ll veer away from the midnight green with a new uniform combo.
For Week 1 of the 2024 NFL Season, The Eagles will make history. They will be taking on the Green Bay Packers in the first-ever game to be hosted in Brazil. However, things will look somewhat different for the birds. They will not be starting the season in their traditional midnight green, or even the kelly green for that matter. The team will wear a new uniform combo never worn before.
Eagles Unveil A New Uniform Combo For Week 1
Back in Black… And White
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles will sport a black helmet, white jersey, and black pants combo. The team confirmed this on social media, showing off the never-before-seen look.

This decision was made in tribute to the soccer team Corinthians. Part of the relevance of this is due to the rumor which spread over this summer that no green would be allowed within the stadium. This a problematic scenario considering both the Eagles and Packers wear green. This is not the case though as the Packers will be wearing their traditional colors.
Corinthians’ rival in soccer is Palmeiras, and it is a very fierce rivalry. So much so that those at Corinthians Arena are informally banned from wearing green. However, as the inquirer reports, NFL Spokesperson Michael Signora said that this dress code would not apply to any NFL-related games and only to soccer.
Bleacher Report states that another part of why the Eagles made this uniform decision was to align themselves with the fans of Sao Paulo. The uniform change is just one of the many unorthodox factors when it comes to this game.
A Series Of Unorthodox Circumstances
Not only will this matchup be the first game in Brazil, it will also be the first game to be played on the South American continent. Also, the Packers choosing to stick with their traditional colors, despite the history of the stadium, is unprecedented, as the Inquirer says. It will be interesting to see if the fans keep a traditional sense of who to root for, as the Eagles are trying to show tribute to the team and fans.
Also, according to the U.S. Sun, the state of the game was already in question. Wildfires were blazing around the surrounding areas of Sao Paulo, leading to uncertainty surrounding the conditions of the game.
Currently, the game is still on but that is another factor that will need to be monitored as the days march on.
