AFC Contender the Pittsburgh Steelers may land 49ers star wideout Deebo Samuel in a blockbuster trade this offseason. A new report says that the Steelers may acquire Samuel or Aiyuk in a trade. It makes sense that the 49ers would want to move on from Samuel considering they’re primarily focusing on extending Aiyuk’s contract. The Steelers still don’t have a No. 2 receiver to replace Diontae Johnson to help accommodate George Pickens.

However, there may be plenty of options available for Pittsburgh including Courtland Sutton who’s looking for a raise in his current deal. If the 49ers trade Aiyuk then they’re likely trading their No. receiver which isn’t something that San Francisco would be willing to do. It’s probably logical for the team to move on from Samuel considering the number of injuries he’s been dealing with. The Steelers were close to getting Samuel or Aiyuk in this year’s draft so they could revisit this idea now this month.

San Francisco was able to strike a new deal with Jauan Jennings to a two-year extension which means they may have commitment issues on at least one of their receivers. However, the 49ers are hoping that a deal will go through as John Lynch isn’t looking to trade either Samuel or Aiyuk. This could be the case now but it seems logical for the 49ers to make a trade now to avoid disgruntle in the locker room, especially when they’re in a “win now” mode.

Whatever it may be, a receiver trade is still possible from the 49ers so this is one to watch. The post-June 1 deadline is reviving the talks of the rumors but they must wait until after that day. However, if the 49ers trade Samuel then they could give Aiyuk a mega contract.

Options On The Table

There are a lot of options available for the 49ers and Steelers to make this trade. It’s to imagine that the 49ers move on from either Samuel or Aiyuk but it’s the logical move to save cap space. They’re going to want to avoid a scenario later down their careers that they’re unable to afford a mega contract for both. This is when their value goes down with their age and injuries later on when it would get harder to ship them to any team to get something in return.

So the only consensus move they should make is moving on from Aiyuk or Samuel. It’s a matter of when this would occur not “if” because the 49ers would be foolish to not make something happen. However, it’ll have to come at the right price as the Steelers probably could provide the best offer among other teams. Many talking heads shouldn’t be surprised if the 49ers receive trade interest from other teams this offseason.

George Pickens has the potential to be the Steelers’ No. 1 receiver so it’s likely that they’ll get Samuel in as the No. 2 wideout. Here are some potential trade fits for Samuel.

Potential Trade Fits for Samuel

The Chargers still surprisingly have a huge need at the receiver position despite getting plenty of wideouts. The loss of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams is going to affect Justin Herbert no matter what so he needs a proven receiver. They took a tackle in the first round of this year’s draft which could mean they’ll explore a trade idea for Aiyuk or Samuel. However, the Saints are another team that is looking for a proven wideout to pair with Chris Olave.

Derek Carr is going to need more than one receiver who can make plays if they want to be NFC contenders this year. The Ravens are another team that is lacking depth at the receiver position. The thought of having Samuel and Zay Flowers would certainly entertain Lamar Jackson. This would probably be the best final piece for Baltimore to be Super Bowl champions to dethrone the Chiefs.
