The Indianapolis Colts hold the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While taking a cornerback or wide receiver also makes sense, the team must select Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.
Bowers is widely regarded as the top tight end prospect in this year’s draft. The biggest question, though, is whether he’ll be available at No. 15.
Bowers may go 10th overall to the New York Jets. Known as a dynamic playmaker, he would make life a lot easier for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who’s returning from an Achilles injury.
Bowers could also land with the Denver Broncos (12th pick) or the New Orleans Saints (14th). But if he slips to 15, the Colts would be foolish to pass him up.
2024 NFL Draft: Brock Bowers Would Be Perfect for the Indianapolis Colts
Star at Georgia for Three Years
Brock Bowers spent three seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs. The California native was an impact player right from the start. Racking up 882 yards and 13 touchdowns, he earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2021.
The following season, Bowers caught 63 passes for 942 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, he had 56 receptions with 714 yards and six touchdowns.
Bowers is considered one of college football’s greatest tight ends of all time. The three-time All-American helped lead the Bulldogs to two College Football Playoff championships.
He’s the only player in college football history to win the John Mackey Award twice. The award, which was established in 2000, honors the top tight end in the country.
Bowers chose to forego his remaining eligibility and declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He could eventually rise to the level of Travis Kelce and George Kittle, emerging as a dominant offensive force.
Why the Colts Should Draft Brock Bowers
Indy’s AFC South rival, the Houston Texans, possesses one of the top pass-catching groups in the NFL. The newly-acquired Stefon Diggs along with the likes of Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Dalton Schultz could certainly help quarterback C.J. Stroud have an MVP season.
However, the Colts would have a dangerous pass-catching corps as well by adding Brock Bowers to the roster. Bowers, teamed with the wide receiver trio of Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce would be fun to watch. Throw in quarterback Anthony Richardson, who’s returning from injury, and running back Jonathan Taylor, and Indianapolis could be an explosive offensive team next season.
The Colts have a solid tight end room. The unit consists of Jelani Woods, who missed last season due to injury, Mo Alie-Cox, Kylen Granson, Will Mallory, and Andrew Ogletree.
Yet, Bowers would be a huge upgrade over all five of those players. The 6-4, 240-pounder is arguably the most talented player in the draft. He can stretch the field and possesses elusiveness and athleticism.
Bowers is an elite route runner who can catch the ball well through contact. He can also pick up a lot of yards yards after the catch, making him a valuable offensive weapon for Richardson. Again, the Colts can’t afford to pass up Brock Bowers if he’s still around at pick No. 15.
