NFL Legendary Running Back Calls Out the Dallas Cowboys

Here is NFL legendary running back, Emmitt Smith calls out the Dallas Cowboys after a disappointing 2023 season.
Smith calls out Cowboys

NFL legendary running back, Emmitt Smith calls out the Dallas Cowboys for their lack of fighting and failing to reach expectations. Smith is a lifelong Dallas Cowboy, but this doesn’t mean he’ll hold back on what he says. On PFT Live, he explained how he’s tired of Dallas failing to reach high expectations. Smith suggested to Cowboys players to owner Jerry Jones that they’re losing credibility and respect.

Smith was surprised that Dallas hasn’t replaced head coach Mike McCarthy yet after having another disappointing 12-5 season that ended in the Wild Card. He said the Dallas Cowboys’ mystique, respect and brand are not the way the team they’re constructing themselves to be. He mentions a lot about respect in his frustrations with the organization. Smith continues to rant about his frustrations watching the team.

“Nobody wants to fight no more. People wanna give them so much without doing anything and everyone’s patting them on the back. What they’re living off of is what happened in the past, not what’s going down right now. They’re not establishing their own legacy, let alone building off of the legacy that was established,” said Smith.

Smith is pointing out that the Cowboys don’t want as they talk about every day. The history and legacy are there and Dallas is struggling to carry the next torch. However, it’s Jerry Jones who oversees all of the wins and failures of the organization. If a player who’s a legend in your organization is telling you that you’re losing credibility, then it could be true.

Is It About the Ratings or Trophies?

His rant puts things in an interesting perspective to see if Jones really actually wants to win more Super Bowls or only cares about the ratings. One report believes that Smith is trying to point that out. As much as he loves Dallas and has a legacy with them, he’s their top critic. The Cowboys have not gone to the NFC Championship since 1995.

He explained more of his theory on 96.7 The Ticket: “At the end of the day, I don’t understand the mission. I don’t know if the mission is to sell more tickets and then give us the illusion that we’re going to be good every year, and to get ratings every year, or to actually go and win a Super Bowl.”

This could seem true from a Cowboys fan perspective year. Jones and the organization always promise that “this will be our year” but the jar seems to be empty every season. It’s frustrating even for a Cowboys fan who watches the game every year to see a team with potential fall flat in the playoffs. It seems Dallas only goes so far as to attract the interest of viewers to bring them together at the beginning to let them down in the end.

Will the Cowboys Go All in This Upcoming Season?

Jerry Jones made a claim earlier that this offseason they’re going to go all in. Whatever this means, the only thing that really counts is what they produce on the field. The Cowboys are working on extending CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott to a long-term deal. You have stars like that, especially one of the best defensive players, Micah Parsons.

Dallas are the only ones that could be shooting themselves in the foot. The Cowboys have gone 12-5 for the past three seasons but only one playoff victory. They were favorites this past season but were embarrassed in their own home and crushed. Maybe the words that Smith speaks will bring some sense for the Cowboys to change.
