2024 NFL Draft: Dallin Holker Scouting Report

Regarding the tight end class of 2024, there is no denying that Dallin Holker has the potential to be a great receiver. His tape is full of incredible catches. Although analytics may not fully capture his skills, it is clear that Holker is one of the most impressive receiving tight ends in this class. There are many moments in which the ball somehow, some way, finds Holker, and he makes some remarkable catches. He does a great job of extending outside his body to get a hand on the ball and bring it down, even when the quarterback throws an imperfect pass. At the least, Holker’s highlight tapes deserve a watch.

Strengths

  • He makes impressive catches. He extends out of his frame to pull in tough catches. Holker is a misthrow eraser. He can extend to the ground, plucking balls out of the air mid-stride;
  • Dallin Holker tracks the ball well across the field. He can drop passes into the bucket at a variety of angles. He’s a very natural catcher. He is a willing receiver through contact;
  • He has good yards after the catch ability. He is a quick, natural transition to a runner. He has a sicko stiff arm move. Holker can make the first defender miss with some lateral juice. He weaves through defenders with good vision after the catch;
  • He knows how to find zone soft spots. He does well attacking the backside of defenders. Holker has good spatial awareness;
  • Dallin Holker has the functional long speed for a tight end. With a runway, he can get moving. Fluid enough hips to be a functional route runner;
  • Vs. 2024 Draft Tight Ends: Yards Per Team Pass Attempt: 1.53 (6th).

Weaknesses

  • Dallin Holker needs to improve his route-running technique. He tends to round off his routes and needs to work on sinking his hips better to accelerate out of breaks;
  • He may not possess explosive athleticism and lacks quick twitch, but he can make up for it by refining his routes to gain better separation;
  • He will not be a blocker at the next level. He will require a team to invest time and resources to develop his featured role;
  • He is not deceiving anyone when he reaches the top of his routes;
  • Vs. 2024 Draft Tight Ends: Projected SpeedScore: 103.16 (12th), Yards After the Catch: 5.5 (10th), Career Yards per Reception: 12.3 (11th), Yards per Route Run: 1.58 (12th).

Bottom Line on Dallin Holker

Dallin Holker may not have elite long speed, but he possesses quick feet and a long stride that make up for it. He is more than capable of making plays downfield and threatening the seam. Holker adjusts very well to the ball and makes catching it over his shoulder look easy. He has an underrated ability to gain yards after the catch due to his excellent vision as a carrier. Holker weaves in and out of traffic and is equipped with some awesome stiff arms. He can make the first defender miss with some unexpected lateral agility.

He’s an effort blocker but it is for naught. Holker needs to put on weight at the next level. He is physical, but the NFL is a different beast than the Mountain West Conference. With some development and the right landing spot, teams should absolutely expect Dallin Holker to be an impact player down the road.
