Tyreek Hill 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill is poised for another promising season, but is he handicapped by quarterback play? Can he achieve his desired goals?

Tyreek Hill migrated south for the 2022 campaign going from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins. Hill, however, was still able to fly high in his new offensive scheme alongside first-year head coach Mike McDaniel and surging quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Despite this change of scenery, Hill soared to new heights on his way to career bests in receptions (119) and receiving yards (1,710), which both were second in the league among wide receivers. In the fantasy world, Hill managed to swim up the ranks in his first season with the Miami Dolphins landing as the WR2 in PPR scoring and had the best fantasy season of his career with 341.20 points. Can Tyreek Hill manage an encore or was his Miami introduction a one-year splash?

2023 Fantasy Football Profile: Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill’s splits with and without Tua Tagovailoa

Last season Tyreek Hill played in every game while his quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, played over 70% of the snaps in 12 games. In the dozen games together, Tyreek Hill averaged seven receptions on 10 targets with 104 receiving yards per game and racked up eight total touchdowns. During that stretch, he accumulated 258.60 PPR fantasy points which equates to 21.55 PPG, which would’ve been WR3 in PPG on the season. If you extend that 21.55 PPG throughout a 17-game season, Tyreek Hill would have scored 366.35 points, just getting edged by the 2022 WR1, Justin Jeffeson, by 2.35 points. Doesn’t appear Tyreek Hill is slowing down by any means and is poised to be even better heading into year two within Mike McDaniel’s offense along with a swole Tua Tagovailoa.

Even without Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill still put up solid numbers in the games without him. Tagovailoa was inactive in four games and then left early in week four due to an injury, resulting in playing less than 40% of the snaps. In those five games, Hill averaged six receptions on eight targets with 82 yards and one total touchdown receiving passes from the combination of Teddy Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson. Those numbers exclude the four receptions for 51 yards in week four with Tagovailoa before he exited the contest. The “downgrade” at quarterback still didn’t matter for Tyreek Hill as he mustered 79.44 PPR fantasy points which boils down to 15.89 PPG, good enough to still finish as a top-15 fantasy wide receiver in PPG on the season. Regardless of who is under center, Tyreek Hill is a threat to take it the distance anytime he touches the football.

Hill aims for 2,000 receiving yards.

Yes, you read that right. Tyreek Hill is determined to be the first-ever player to reach 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. The current record stands at 1,964 yards held by Calvin Johnson. Hill’s got the potential, talent, and willpower to accomplish this absurd milestone. Historically, the odds are against him as, of course, no one has ever been able to conquer this feat. Players have been close and in the new pass-heavy NFL it’s just a matter of time before someone breaks through the barrier. So why not Tyreek Hill?

How is Tyreek Hill in a prime position to obtain the unthinkable? It starts with the Miami Dolphins not doing themselves any favors in free agency or the NFL draft. They let Mike Gesicki and Trent Sherfield walk in free agency, which opens up over 100 targets between the two. They used one of their four draft picks on a pass catcher, however, wasn’t until the 6th round. The only notable receivers they brought in this offseason are Chosen ”Robbie” Anderson and Braxton Berrios. Neither are high-target players threatening Hill’s objective. On top of the lacking target competition, the Dolphins should remain one of the better offenses within the league and improve in Mike McDaniel’s sophomore season as head coach.

The 2,000-yard atmosphere is bound to shatter eventually, so why not gamble on one of the most dynamic playmakers in the game guaranteed to have one of the largest target shares in the NFL?
