NFL veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry has signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Lowry has spent his entire seven-year career with the Green Bay Packers. He has provided the team with a stout pass rush and solid production along the team’s defensive line since he was drafted out of Northwestern in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

In 2022, Lowry started in 12 of the 15 games in which he played. Lowry finished the season with 0.5 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, and 5 quarterback hits. Lowry ended up playing 53% of the defensive snaps last season, a slight decrease from his playing time in the four seasons prior.
The highlight of Lowry’s 2022 season came when he blocked Bears kicker Cairo Santos’ 40-yard FG attempt in Week 13. This ended up being a crucial play in the Packers 28-19 victory, as they were down 17-19 at the beginning of the 4th quarter when Lowry blocked the kick.
In his career, Lowry has displayed incredible durability and reliability. Between 2019 and 2021, he started in each of the 49 regular season games for the Packers. Lowry and safety Adrian Amos were the only two players on the team to start every game during that span.
Lowry’s career season came in 2021. In that campaign, he registered his career high in sacks, with five, and passes defended, with four. Since he entered the league in 2016, Lowry immediately contributed as part of the Packers defensive line rotation. Prior to his career season in 2021, Lowry recorded at least two to three sacks in four out of the five seasons he played.
Lowry scored the lone touchdown of his career on a 62-yard fumble recovery off a Jameis Winston fumble in a 26-20 win over the Buccaneers in Week 13 in 2017.
On July 23rd, 2019, just prior to Matt LaFleur’s first season as Packers Head Coach, the Packers rewarded Lowry with a three-year extension worth $20.325 million.
