With free agency less than one week away, the Miami Dolphins are looking to spend money and get new players. The Dolphins want to be ready to win now, but they have not had a playoff win since 2000, and have not made the playoffs since 2016. Miami has the third-most cap space in the NFL, with just over $50 million to spend. They can free up another $20 million by releasing some players (Jesse Davis, Allen Hurns, Cethan Carter). With that being said, here are three players the Dolphins should target and sign next week.
Miami Dolphins Should Sign These Players During Free Agency
Terron Armstead, Offensive Tackle, New Orleans Saints
Terron Armstead will be the most sought-after offensive lineman to hit the open market. The 30-year-old is one of the best linemen in the league and he will be getting a big payday wherever he ends up this off-season. Injuries have been a problem for Armstead in the past, but with the offensive line being their number one need, Miami will take all the help they can get. New head coach Mike McDaniel knows what it is like to have a premier tackle on the offensive line. He was with the San Francisco 49ers when they made Trent Williams the highest-paid offensive lineman of all time at 32 years old with a six-year deal. That turned out to be a great signing, and the Dolphins should do the same thing with Armstead (projected contract – five years, $100 million, $60 million guaranteed).

Ryan Jensen, Center, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Signing another offensive lineman would not hurt the Dolphins at all. Their offensive line was the worst unit in the entire NFL last year, and the Dolphins need some more veterans along their offensive line. Ryan Jensen proved to the league these past couple of seasons that he is one of the better centers in the NFL. He has not missed a single game in five consecutive seasons and he is coming off his first Pro Bowl selection of his career. If the Dolphins can walk away with arguably the top two offensive linemen in free agency, that would be a huge win for the franchise (projected contract- five years, $55 million, $40 million guaranteed).
Allen Robinson, Wide Receiver, Chicago Bears
Allen Robinson is one of the most interesting free agents this year. He is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career after signing the franchise tag with the Chicago Bears last March. He finished last season with only 38 catches, 410 yards, and one touchdown in 12 games. Inconsistent quarterback play led to an up and down four years for Robinson in Chicago. In 2020 however, he had his best season as a pro. He finished with 102 catches, 1,250 yards, and six touchdowns and played in all 16 games. If the Dolphins are not going to draft a receiver and if they can get Robinson on a team-friendly deal, that might be a move they should make. Robinson will be 29 when the new season starts (projected contract – three years, $30 million, $20 million guaranteed).
Improving the offense this off-season should be the Miami Dolphins number one priority and they can accomplish that, at least in part, via free agency. They need to surround Tua Tagovailoa with more skilled players and also improve the offensive line. The Dolphins should be busy once March 16th comes around.
