The Chicago Bears (6-11) have cleaned house since their season ended, firing Head Coach Matt Nagy and General Manager Ryan Pace. As the Bears franchise looks to its future, one that will be bright if they hire the right people, there are plenty of strong options available to fill the Bears open head coaching position.
Three Options for the Chicago Bears Head Coach Vacancy
Brian Daboll, Bills Offensive Coordinator
One of the most common names that has been brought up in the Bears head coaching search has been Brian Daboll. Daboll has made a name for himself as one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL. He has been a major factor in the development of Bills star quarterback Josh Allen, a player that was widely regarded as a project when he was coming out of Wyoming.
Daboll has done a fantastic job catering Buffalo’s offense to Allen’s strengths, which is something that the Bears are in desperate need of with their franchise quarterback, Justin Fields. Fields is an athletic, mobile quarterback but Matt Nagy’s offense did not provide him with many opportunities to showcase his strengths. Brian Daboll would undoubtedly make a great candidate to fill the head coaching vacancy left by Nagy and provide Justin Fields with an offense that he can excel in.
Brian Flores, Former Dolphins Head Coach
Although an offensive mind should be the Bears primary target, Flores should absolutely not be off the table for the Chicago Bears. The Bears have plenty of young stars defensively, and Flores is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL. If the Bears are able to hire Flores and pair him with a quality offensive coordinator, Fields should be put in quite a good situation. Flores is a coach that has been widely loved by players and coaches across the league, and his firing from the Miami Dolphins came as a surprise to many.
Flores did an excellent job establishing a winning culture in Miami, and should be able to do the same in Chicago. His defense would be fantastic, especially considering that Chicago’s defense has young stars like Roquan Smith and Jaylon Johnson, among others. He would also have some great veteran players like Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, and Eddie Jackson to work with. A Chicago Bears defense led by Brian Flores would be a fantastic fit.

Mike McDaniel, 49ers Offensive Coordinator
As the 49ers offensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel has been involved in an elite level offense for years. McDaniel is widely labeled as one of the best offensive minds in football, but has been overshadowed by Shanahan in San Francisco of late. McDaniel is an incredible leader, and is experienced with developing young quarterbacks. He has worked with young quarterbacks a lot, with QB Collective. One player he has coached at QB Collective is none other than the Bears quarterback himself, Justin Fields.
Bringing McDaniel to Chicago as the Bears head coach would not only help expand their run game, but would be a great help in developing Justin Fields into becoming the true future and face of the Chicago Bears franchise. McDaniel’s outside zone rushing scheme will fit right in with Fields’s strengths, and we would see a lot more of the designed quarterback run game in an offense led by Mike McDaniel, in addition to David Montgomery excelling in that offensive system.
