Kary Vincent Jr. 2021 NFL Draft Profile

Kary Vincent Jr. chose LSU over Texas, Alabama, and many others. At the cornerback position, Vincent Jr. helped continue the notion in Baton Rouge that LSU is ‘DBU’. In his college career from 2017-2019, Vincent Jr. totaled 88 tackles, one sack, and six interceptions. His freshman season in 2017 was sensational. Vincent Jr. made an immediate impression and had a one-handed interception against Tennessee-Chattanooga. He totaled nine tackles, one pass defended, and one interception during his freshman season. The cornerback’s Sophomore year in 2018 saw him total 31 tackles with one sack, six passes defended, and an interception. During his Junior year in 2019, he had his best season yet at LSU. Vincent Jr. finished with 49 tackles, 36 of which were solo and four interceptions for 45 yards while also defending nine passes.

Vincent Jr. sat out the 2020 season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. The choice to sit out could have an impact on his draft stock as the 2021 draft nears this week. But at Pro Day in March, Vincent Jr. clocked in at a 4.33 40-yard dash time.

  • Struggles to hold his own against taller receivers;
  • Can get eaten up by blockers in the run game;
  • Not the most willing run defender.

Teams With Need At Position: Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys.

Bottom Line on Kary Vincent Jr.

Vincent Jr. could be a mid-round pick, probably in the third round or later. Had he played in 2020, that stock could have risen to a likely second-round selection. Regardless of where he lands, Vincent Jr. will have to improve on defending the run and get off blocks better. Aside from that, this is a defensive back that could have a solid career given his frame. He possesses great hands and when he runs stride for stride with receivers. Vincent is great at rarely giving up a completion.

The cornerback could be a steal in the draft for any team that selects him. One area that must improve heading into the NFL is getting beat by taller receivers. Off the line of scrimmage, Vincent Jr. will have to play faster in the league in order to become a top-tier cornerback. His ability to defend the run will also have to improve. With some NFL teams having elite running backs, Vincent Jr. could have a tough time taking down the bigger tailbacks. With Vincent Jr being away from the game for an entire season, it could take time for him to get back into the swing of things, especially at the NFL level.

However, the former LSU star could see himself emerge just like other Tigers players have. LSU has a solid history of producing great NFL talent on the defensive side of the ball. Kary Vincent Jr. just might be the next great LSU secondary player to leave a legacy at the professional level.
