Few teams changed their receiving corps more than the New England Patriots this offseason. New England acquired superstar A.J. Brown in a blockbuster trade and also signed Romeo Doubs in free agency, completely reshaping the offense.
As a result, Kayshon Boutte could find himself buried on the depth chart. Brown and Doubs are expected to occupy the top two receiver spots, leaving Boutte competing for the No. 3 role. That competition will be difficult as veteran Mack Hollins remains a useful option, Kyle Williams brings game-breaking speed, and Demario Douglas continues to be one of Drake Maye’s trusted targets.
Trade speculation has already surrounded Boutte this offseason. The 24-year-old skipped voluntary workouts while the Patriots worked on acquiring Brown, leading to rumors that he could be on the move. However, Boutte recently downplayed the speculation and stated that he wants to remain in New England long-term.
Despite those comments, opportunities may be difficult to find in such a crowded receiver room. Boutte has shown flashes of being a potential WR2 in the NFL and still possesses plenty of upside. During the 2025 season with the San Francisco 49ers, Robinson appeared in 14 games and recorded 22 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers do not jump off the page, but they demonstrate his ability to contribute when called upon.
San Francisco’s receiver room has become increasingly crowded. Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and Ricky Pearsall are expected to command significant snaps, while the organization also invested in rookie De’Zhaun Stribling during the draft. Because of that depth, Robinson could slide into a WR4 or WR5 role.
At 31 years old, Robinson remains a dependable veteran who can help a contender immediately. Should a playoff hopeful suffer injuries at wide receiver, the 49ers could receive calls about the experienced pass catcher before the trade deadline.
Keon Coleman May Benefit From a Fresh Start
Coleman has been in trade rumors for a while now. Buffalo entered the 2024 NFL Draft believing Keon Coleman could become a major piece of its offense for years to come. Unfortunately, the early results have not matched those expectations.
Consistency has been an issue throughout Coleman’s first two professional seasons. Although he has displayed flashes of talent, he has struggled to develop into the reliable weapon the Buffalo Bills envisioned when they selected him in the second round.
Meanwhile, Buffalo remains focused on maximizing its championship window. If the organization determines Coleman is not progressing as expected, a trade could become a realistic option.
Another team may view the young receiver as a worthwhile reclamation project. A new environment, different coaching staff, and fresh offensive system could help unlock the potential that made him such a highly regarded prospect.
Coleman is arguably the most intriguing name among these three wide receivers who could be traded because of his age, upside, and untapped talent.
Trade Candidates to Watch
Boutte, Robinson, and Coleman all face very different situations entering the season. Boutte is fighting for opportunities in a crowded receiver room. Robinson could become expendable because of San Francisco’s depth. Coleman may simply need a change of scenery. If circumstances change throughout the year, all three players could become legitimate trade candidates before the deadline.
