Cowboys LB Hires New Agent, Could Spark Contract War in 2027

The Dallas Cowboys have yet another offseason problem on their hands as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown hired NFL agent David Mulugheta. It is the same agent that represents WR George Pickens and Green Bay Packers Micah Parsons. According to Adam Schefter on X, the linebacker is entering the final year of his rookie contract and decided to hire Mulugheta as his agent. Originally selected as a third-round pick, the former Texas product spent his rookie season on IR recovering from a torn ACL.

The Cowboys don’t have to worry about giving him a contract before the 2026 season since he’s struggled to stay healthy during his first three seasons with the team. However, by hiring Mulugheta, Overshown is preparing for contract talks if he has a breakout year. While it feels deserved, it doesn’t at the same time. The linebacker only played in 19 games, while starting 17 of them, which wouldn’t intrigue Dallas either way.

Let’s put it this way: the Cowboys probably won’t meet Overshown’s asking price after the 2026 season if he puts up All-Pro numbers. It wouldn’t be sensible, which could trigger a new problem between Jerry Jones and Mulugheta. The last time that the two had their dispute was during the Micah Parsons contract talks, where Dallas ultimately traded him to Green Bay. Jones had a “handshake agreement” with Parsons, but the star wanted the owner to talk to his agent regarding the potential contract details.

This is where things fell apart. Parsons refused to play the following 2025 season, which led him to state on social media that he no longer wanted to be with the Cowboys.

Same Old Story?

There was some worry that Pickens would be the latest player to leave Dallas in the latest Cowboys-Mulugheta showdown. However, as of this posting, Pickens isn’t going anywhere. He informed the team that he will sign his franchise tag. Meanwhile, for Overshown, there is arguably nothing to worry about for now.

If Oveshown is looking for an unrealistic payday, he has another thing coming. The team selected Malachi Lawrence with the No. 23 pick while grabbing Jaishawn Barham in the third round. They also traded for LB Dee Winters at a bargain, so the team is loading up if Overshown leaves Dallas in 2027. For now, health will be the one thing to keep an eye on for Overshown to see what type of season he puts up.
