Breaking: Browns May Release Former First Rounder After Latest Incident

In an unfortunate sequence of events, the Cleveland Browns may release former first-round pick Devin Bush after its latest incident. According to the breaking news, the linebacker was arrested on simple assault and harassment charges after his alleged altercation with his girlfriend during an argument. Originally selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Michigan product is out on non-monetary bail, but he has his preliminary hearing scheduled later this month. It doesn’t look good for the Browns, who are monitoring the situation to see and are gathering more information to dissect what could be the next steps for Bush.

With that, the linebacker could face a possible suspension at most, but it shouldn’t be surprising if the Browns release him before the 2025 regular season. Offseason distractions like this are something the organization can’t afford, and unfortunately, they just gave him a new contract this year, so it’ll become difficult for they may do. Bush spent the first four campaigns with the Pittsburgh Steelers, hoping to carve out a role in their defense after surpassing 100 tackles. He didn’t make much of an impact with the Steelers after his rookie season, as he dealt with injuries in his sophomore campaign and served in a rotational role with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023.

Bush made his return to the AFC North last year, recording 76 tackles and a sack in 16 games. It’s hard for him to garner any interest given the nature of this event, but these three teams could take a chance on him if he becomes a free agent.

Next Possible Teams

Baltimore Ravens

If any NFL team knows how to bring out the best in a pass rusher, it’s the Baltimore Ravens. The team once had an explosive defense back in 2023 before losing Jadeveon Clowney and a few athletes due to cap space. The Ravens have not been the same in terms of getting after the quarterback and ensuring the offense couldn’t get out of the pocket to make a play. With that, Baltimore brought in relief signing Yannick Ngakoue, who was later released when they saw some improvements in the unit.

It wasn’t enough for Trenton Simpson, Broderick Washington or Travis Jones to hold their weight together to help Nnamdi Madubuike in the trenches. After losing Malik Harrison to their rival, they need another capable edge rusher to strengthen this roster. Devin Bush may fill the hole in a second chance opportunity and may hold the front to finally get some juice going.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, Bush heading to the Chiefs would be a no-brainer situation. After losing Josh Uche, the Chiefs need another opposite man to help Nick Bolton since extending his contract this offseason. Kansas City has dealt with multiple offseason issues with athletes like Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyreek Hill. Bush would be no different and the Chiefs could easily get him back in a different head space.

Los Angeles Chargers

Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games in the trenches, but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Since losing Poona Ford, it was their best upcoming defender whom they should have gotten back. However, they lost him to the Rams, but got Teair Tart back. Tart won’t be the same as well, and Khalil Mack is returning without the presence of Ford and could fill a capable replacement like Bush if he can stay out of trouble.
