2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies had an embarrassment of riches at the EDGE rusher position in the 2024 season. One of these players, Shemar Stewart, is a hulking anomaly of a 2025 NFL Draft prospect. Stewart’s pro prospects are seemingly far higher than his college production insinuates. When evaluating his tape, the elements of his game that are sure to allure teams are evident right off the bat. Yet, Shemar Stewart’s pro prospects are largely up in the air heading into draft season.

Overview, Film Analysis, And 2025 Scouting Report Of Texas A&M EDGE Defender Shemar Stewart

Measurables

Height: 6’5″

Weight: 281 lbs

Player Background

Shemar Stewart was a five-star prospect coming out of high school. Emerging from Monsignor Pace High School in Miami, Florida, Stewart was bound for big things. His size has always stuck out to evaluators, and this has remained the case throughout his career. The 2022 graduate committed to Texas A&M out of his 33 college football offers. This was even despite his hometown Miami Hurricanes providing him with an offer. Since then, Stewart has spent all three of his college football seasons as a member of the Aggies.

Stewart’s college production is a topic of contention when evaluating his pro prospects. Recording only 4.5 total sacks throughout his college football career makes him very much a prospect who has higher pro expectations. Some of this can be attributed to playing alongside potential first-rounder Nic Scourton. Still, teams will need to be confident that Stewart’s impressive size, prospect history, and physical traits, will be enough to warrant an early selection.

Strengths

Therefore, the game tape should be Stewart’s biggest proponent. When turning on the film, it is immediately clear that Stewart is a physical presence. He has excellent leg drive, that provides challenges for opposing offensive linemen. He seemed to have very little trouble in the power aspect of the game against a variety of opponents. This lower body power, coupled with his massive wingspan, is enough to garner attention at the next level.

Stewart also appears to be a smart player. He does a great job of identifying screens and navigating traffic to get to the ball carrier. He is also impressive when being read, as he does a great job of feathering when that is his task in a given play. His nose for the ball is a huge benefit in the run game, as he sets the edge well and has the power to toss blockers and fill his gap. His play strength is also the biggest positive to his game as a pass rusher.

Weaknesses

While the physical tools and football acumen are evident in Stewart’s game, there are some concerns on his tape. Namely, as a pass rusher, Stewart tends to come in a bit top-heavy. He often starts his rush with a long arm to generate space, but when linemen punch down on contact Stewart tends to lose balance. When Stewart does get a jump on his opponent, he can sometimes lose a rep by resorting solely to his strength and length and being driven upfield and out of the play.

These concerns are compounded by a bit of a small repertoire of pass-rush moves. When Stewart comes off the ball, it also takes a bit for him to transition into his rush. As the game progresses, Stewart does seem to become less effective as a pass rusher. His feet lose a bit of intensity overall. This is not a question of effort, but conditioning more than anything.

Potential Team Fits

NFL Projection

Stewart is a prospect that teams need to be confident about having his best football ahead of him. Most likely, that football will come as a hybrid five-three technique situational type of player. He has the size, strength, and intelligence to be a very successful player at the next level. It will be up to the coaching staff of whatever team drafts him to get the most out of his game. Stewart has garnered some first-round buzz. Given his current production and raw talent, an early day-two selection feels more appropriate. Regardless, success at the next level could very well be in the cards for the Texas A&M pass rusher.
