Giving Back – Saints Bart Starr Award Winner Launches Foundation for Louisiana Youth

Since being drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Cam Jordan has started 225 of 226 appearances for the team over 14 years in New Orleans. A Saints legend and adopted son of the city, Jordan continues to give back to his community off the field as well as on it.

Cam Jordan Launches “Legacy Scholarship Program”

As well as giving NFL quarterbacks sleepless nights for the last 14 years, Jordan is well known for his generous acts away from the football field. His foundation, “The Cam Jordan Foundation“, regularly helps those in need by way of annual turkey giveaways, providing back-to-school supplies and hosting youth sports events in underserved communities.

That generosity hasn’t gone unnoticed and this year, at the Super Bowl breakfast, Jordan will be awarded the Bart Starr award for outstanding character and leadership, on and off the field.

That same character and generosity has made him this year’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award nominee for the Saints, but the eight-time Pro Bowler is far from finished.

“The Cam Jordan Foundation Legacy Scholarship Program”, will provide four exceptional Louisiana-based high school seniors with full college tuition for four years, to an in-state college or university.

Not only will full tuition be covered, but the chosen students will further help in the form of career exposure, mentorship, and professional development resources.

Partnered with Raising Cane’s, Google Pathfinder Beyond Sports, Microsoft, and Energy, the program will provide $12,500 to each student annually to cover tuition, with the remaining funds to help towards books, accommodation or other expenses. Each student will also receive a new laptop, courtesy of Microsoft.

It’s Always Been About the Next Generation

Speaking at the launch of the program, Jordan told reporter Meagan Glover: “think about all I’ve been given. A stable home, a stable family, a place like New Orleans to call home.”

“The ability to give back and not worry about where we accrue these funds. First of all, I just started giving away my own money and then was like, I’ve got to turn this into a real foundation.”

“So my heart’s always been in the right place and the financial side sort of came with it after. But it’s always been about the next generation. What can I do for the one coming up? Not for me.”

Investing in Our Youth is Investing in the Future of Louisiana

On the press release for the launch of the program, there are yet more words of inspiration from Jordan.

“Through this program, we aim to empower future leaders each year who will make a difference in their communities and beyond.”

“Investing in our youth is investing in the future of Louisiana.”

It’s very easy to see why the Saints legend is held in such high regard by his peers. Spending time visiting schools each week during the season to inspire the community’s next generation, Jordan is always looking for ways to give back.

Applicants for the program must be high school seniors living in Louisiana. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate financial need. Successful students will have a history of community service, leadership or extra-curricular involvement.

It’s clear that the three-time All-Pro is serious about furthering the development of the best and brightest in the state, especially those held back only by a lack of financial fortune. Jordan will receive the 2025 Bart Starr award at the Super Bowl breakfast on Saturday, Feb 8th, and you’d do well to find a more deserved winner.
