Tez Johnson

Tez Johnson Has Been Unguardable At The Senior Bowl

The Senior Bowl is a great way for NFL Draft prospects to showcase their abilities in front of scouts. The Senior Bowl holds many practice sessions for the players to showcase their abilities. After this, two teams are selected and a football game is played. Wide receiver Tez Johnson has reportedly stuck out at the Senior Bowl so far.

This Receiver Has Been Unguardable At The Senior Bowl

University of Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson has reportedly looked elite so far at the Senior Bowl. Johnson had a great college career, particularly in his last two seasons with Oregon. Before transferring to Oregon prior to the 2023 season, Johnson spent his first three years at Troy University. He was a productive receiver at Troy as well, posting two seasons of at least 55 receptions, 700 yards, and 4 touchdowns. However, Johnson took his game to another level after his transfer to the Ducks.

Johnson’s Oregon career

Tez Johnson had two elite seasons with the Oregon Ducks. In 2023, Johnson caught 86 passes for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns. This season, Johnson accumulated 83 receptions for 898 yards and 10 touchdowns again. It is even more impressive that he put up these numbers with two different quarterbacks. In 2023, Bo Nix was Johnson’s quarterback. In 2024, it was Dillon Gabriel. Both of these quarterbacks were great in college, but Johnson’s ability to develop instant chemistry with both of them shows how dynamic of a receiver he can be. So, where could Johnson best fit in the NFL?

Pittsburgh Steelers

It is no longer a secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers need offensive help. They have one explosive player in wide receiver George Pickens. Otherwise, there is nothing notable on this offense. Drafting Johnson could be a step towards revamping a lackluster offensive unit. Tez Johnson is currently projected to be a third-round pick in the draft. However, his stock is rising quickly due to his Senior Bowl play. Pittsburgh could be a team to watch as they could very much use Johnson’s skill set.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have three very good receivers in Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell. However, their situation is not that simple. Dell is coming off of a brutal knee injury, where he tore his ACL, MCL, LCL, dislocated his knee, and sustained damage to his meniscus. It is unlikely he will be able to return next year. When Dell does return, there is no guarantee he will be the same explosive player. Stefon Diggs is also coming off of a torn ACL. He is a free agent, and if he decides to sign elsewhere, the Texans would suddenly be very thin at receiver. Enter Tez Johnson, who Houston could implement next to Nico Collins, maybe Stefon Diggs, and C.J. Stroud. Although Houston shouldn’t be considered a favorite for Johnson, they are an intriguing sleeper to draft him.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are notorious for not drafting wide receivers, specifically in the first or second round. Johnson could be a perfect fit for Green Bay as he is currently projected to be a third-round pick. The Packers have receivers they likely, but frankly, they could use an upgrade. A core of Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs is very unlikely to be a core good enough on a true Super Bowl contender. The Packers passing attack was mediocre as the team averaged 223.9 yards through the air, 12th in the league. Green Bay loves to run the ball with Josh Jacobs however, they need to be able to stretch the field as well. Quarterback Jordan Love has looked shaky at times, throwing 3 interceptions in the team’s first-round loss to the Eagles. Johnson could be somewhat of a security blanket for Love. If the Packers think they need to add a playmaker at receiver, Tez Johnson would be a good target, as they wouldn’t have to spend a first-round pick to get him.
