Sell-high Quarterbacks

Three Sell-High Quarterbacks for Dynasty Leagues

The offseason in dynasty leagues is just getting started which means it’s time to look at players from all positions who are buy-low candidates or sell-high candidates. These sell-high quarterbacks aren’t necessarily players who are old or aren’t good anymore. However, they may have less value when the season starts.

Three Sell-High Quarterbacks for Dynasty Leagues

Patrick Mahomes

This may be a controversial one to start the list, but Patrick Mahomes isn’t the same quarterback he was two or three years ago. His passing yards, yards per attempt and touchdown passes have been the lowest of his career in 2023 and 2024. There has been a shift in the offense for Kansas City Chiefs that put more of an emphasis on running.

When Mahomes was younger, he would consistently throw the ball 40-45 times per game. In the last two seasons, he has thrown more than 40 passes just 11 times. Pair that with an aging Travis Kelce and an underwhelming wide receiver room, it’s inevitable Mahomes won’t get back to his old self.

Mahomes is listed as the QB6 for dynasty and could still get a strong return via trade. He would fetch a first-round pick or a solid quarterback replacement in return.

Brock Purdy

Brock Purdy took a major step back in 2024 after turning heads in 2023. He was throwing the ball a lot more than last season due to having a revolving door of running backs, but he’s not the type of quarterback to throw 30-35 times per game. The San Francisco 49ers need to look for durability behind Christian McCaffrey.

Deebo Samuel is entering the last year of his contract and will be the subject of trade rumors all offseason, but Purdy will have a healthy Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall in 2025 along with Jauan Jennings. There’s more optimism around the receiver room, but it doesn’t mean Purdy will be able to deliver.

Purdy is a good QB2, but there are definitely better options out there. He’s currently the QB15 in dynasty leagues and could fetch a late first-rounder or a comparable QB2 who may have more upside.

Kyler Murray

Kyler Murray gets hyped up every year right before training camp rolls around as fantasy players hope it’s finally his year. However, he’s consistently fallen short of expectations even with Marvin Harrison Jr. as his top receiver. Almost a third of all of his games in 2024 finished with less than 200 passing yards. The Arizona Cardinals have a lot of work to do to have him live up to the hype.

His rushing upside isn’t even enough to avoid putting him into the sell-high category for quarterbacks. Murray had just five games where he ran for 50+ yards and never ran the ball more than eight times in a game. He’s doing just enough to prevent the Cardinals from moving on and finding his replacement.

Murray is the QB13 in dynasty leagues, but his age is the only thing keeping him that high. If you’re looking to sell high on Murray, you’re probably going to have to package him with another player or draft pick to help push the trade through in your league.
