Tweet Suggests Saints Star Has Played Final Game With Team – Chargers, Patriots Trades Possible

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave suffered another concussion, and a tweet from his brother suggests he won't be back with the team
Chris Olave Tweet

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave suffered yet another concussion on a poorly located ball, and one tweet suggests the former first-round pick may have played his last snap with the team. Selected 11th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product immediately made a name for himself in a loaded wide receiver class. While he passed the 1,000-yard threshold, Olave missed two games due to a concussion. Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated incident, as Olave’s latest concussion is his fourth since entering the NFL.

Chris Olave’s brother, Josh, tweeted that the wide receiver is “up and active” after receiving that gruesome hit. One fan quoted the tweet, wondering aloud if Olave’s long-term health concerns outweighed his desire to stay on the field. Josh responded, saying that it “ain’t worth it in Nola.”

Obviously, Josh Olave is not Chris, and his words do not mean that the Ohio State product will never play again. However, it’s safe to say these two are close and Josh’s tweet shouldn’t be ignored. With the Saints staring down a rebuild and trapped in salary cap purgatory, they might consider parting ways with their homegrown talent. While a trade won’t happen before Tuesday’s deadline, don’t be surprised if Olave spends the rest of the season on the sideline and finds a new home in the offseason.

Chargers, Patriots Could Trade For Chris Olave After Alarming Tweet

Following their 27-10 win over the lowly Cleveland Browns, the Los Angeles Chargers are 5-3 and in the driver’s seat for a Wild Card spot. Justin Herbert is back to full strength and playing like an elite quarterback, while head coach Jim Harbaugh’s influence on the running game and defense is evident throughout the roster. This team has the talent to compete, but their wide receiver room could sink the entire unit. While Quentin Johnston and second-round pick Ladd McConkey are playing well, this team could use another playmaker to reach their ceiling in 2025.

Josh’s tweet shows that Chris Olave is tired of Derek Carr’s hospital balls, so he should relish the opportunity to play with Justin Herbert. The Chargers franchise quarterback is one of the most accurate passers in the league and excels at locating the ball to minimize the damage taken by his receivers. While he’s no Tom Brady, Herbert’s ideal combination of athleticism and accuracy should make him a perfect fit in this offense. If Jim Harbaugh is willing to pay up for a receiver, this team could win the Super Bowl next year.

Help For Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have their quarterback of the future in third-overall pick Drake Maye. While the rookie is enduring a few growing pains, the 22-year-old is already the best passer to step foot in New England since Tom Brady. The future is bright for the UNC product, but the Patriots must add more talent if they want him to avoid Andrew Luck’s fate. New England currently has the worst record in football and would hold the first-overall pick if the season ended today. Seeing as they don’t need a quarterback, they could make a trade with a team desperate to land a franchise passer.

Derek Carr may or may not be back in 2025, but even if he returns, it’s clear that he is not a long-term solution for this team. If Josh’s tweet is correct and Chris Olave could be on the market, then perhaps New Orleans could send him and a first-round pick to New England.
