Saints Could Trade Overlooked Star To Chiefs, Jaguars

The New Orleans Saints are phasing Cameron Jordan out of their defense, but a trade could bring out the best in the eight-time Pro Bowler
Cameron Jordan Trade

Cameron Jordan is one of the better pass rushers in Saints history, but that doesn’t mean the team won’t trade him in the coming weeks. A first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the California product quickly established himself as one of the game’s elite edge defenders. From 2013 to 2022, Jordan started in 160 games, recording 106.5 sacks, 365 tackles, 140 tackles-for-loss, 202 quarterback hits, and 12 forced fumbles while earning eight Pro Bowl nominations and First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and that appears to be happening. Jordan had a rough 2023, recording just two sacks in 17 games, and he hasn’t turned it around in 2024. Cameron Jordan has only recorded two tackles and no sacks through three games and has yet to play more than 50% of the snaps in any contest. With the Saints moving forward with younger options, the team could trade Cameron Jordan to an organization like the Kansas City Chiefs or Jacksonville Jaguars.

Chiefs, Jaguars Could Trade For Saints Cameron Jordan

The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0, but could just as easily be 0-3. Despite their pristine record, this hasn’t looked like the same unstoppable team from years past. While they still have plenty of time to turn it around, they must do something about the pass rush. The team has collectively accumulated just six sacks through the first three games, and that type of production won’t be enough to win a third Super Bowl in as many seasons. Cameron Jordan might not be the player he once was, but Kansas City could trade for the veteran to see if he has anything left in his tank.

With Travis Kelce slowing down, Marquise Brown likely sidelined for the season, and first-round pick Xavier Worthy adjusting to the NFL, the Chiefs will once again rely on their defense as they pursue their third championship in as many seasons. Last year, the team won it all largely thanks to the elite cornerback duo of L’Jarius Sneed and Trent McDuffie. Now that Sneed is in Tennessee, the Chiefs should trade for someone like Cameron Jordan who can put pressure on an opposing quarterback and make life easier for the secondary.

Last-Second Help In Jacksonville

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Trevor Lawrence erased a 27-pound playoff deficit to Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. Since that fateful day, Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars have been in a downward spiral. Now 0-3 after a humiliating defeat on national television, the Jaguars must do something if they want to salvage their season. A Cameron Jordan trade might not be the sexiest move in the world, but he could bolster a stagnant defense.

The Jaguars have too much talent to be this bad. Lawrence already received his extension, so he won’t be going anywhere no matter how bad things get this season. The same cannot be said of Pederson, who will likely get the boot if Jacksonville doesn’t turn it around fast. With this in mind, Pederson probably won’t care about what he gives up in a Cameron Jordan trade, as the one-time Super Bowl champion is coaching for his job.
