Over the years, quarterbacks have become more mobile, giving them more rushing upside in fantasy football. The quarterbacks that finish with the highest fantasy PPG are the ones that run a lot. Therefore, the goal in 2024 should be to target one with lots of rushing upside. Here is an overview of the best quarterbacks to target in fantasy football this season. All ADPs reference in this article are from FantasyPros ADP.
Quarterbacks that have rushing upside have become more valuable over the years: Knowing when to draft one is key to a successful draft.
Quarterback Targets Fantasy Football 2024
2024 Fantasy Football Draft Guide
Early Round Staples
The top four quarterbacks in 2024 are the same as in years past: Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson. These are the elite guys with no question marks. Allen has finished as the QB1 in three of the past four seasons. Hurts and Jackson make their money running the football, and Mahomes is the best quarterback of our generation. Allen is going 22nd, Hurts and Mahomes are going 30th and 32nd, while Jackson is 42nd. Pick 22 is too early to take Allen, so the only time to take Allen is if he falls outside the top 30. However, the quarterback position is deeper than in years past, meaning it is better to wait than sacrifice an elite talent at another position.
Middle Round Upside Quarterbacks with Questions
The next six guys going in drafts are C.J. Stroud (ADP 51), Anthony Richardson (52), Joe Burrow (67), Kyler Murray (71), Jordan Love (74), and Dak Prescott (77). Richardson and Murray are quarterbacks with lots of rushing upside, but they have injury concerns. If they stay healthy, they can finish as a top-three fantasy quarterback. Stroud, Burrow, Love, and Prescott are all pocket passers with minimal rushing upside. It is a tough path for these four to finish as a top-three fantasy quarterback without being able to pick up lots of points on the ground. Richardson and Murray are two guys who are worth targeting in these rounds, as they have good offenses around them and have a ton of rushing upside.
Late Round Sleeper Quarterbacks
If waiting this long to draft a quarterback, there are still plenty of solid quarterbacks to take. Rookies Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams are explosive playmakers with rushing upside. They are both going right around pick 100 in drafts. If concerned about Richardson’s health, Daniels is a similar player who is a better passer than Richardson. Waiting a few rounds and taking Daniels instead of picking Richardson early is a safer decision. If deciding to draft a quarterback with injury concerns, pairing them with solid pocket passers of Brock Purdy, Jared Goff, and Trevor Lawrence is a great way to go. Take a risky player with a high ceiling and pair them with a safer player with a high floor.
