Tyler Huntley, Baltimore Ravens, Agree to Contract
After spending the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, Tyler Huntley joined the Cleveland Browns and their crowded quarterback room on a one-year contract. Battling with Jameis Winston and 2023 fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson for backup duties, Huntley made the original 53-man roster. However, his time on the team was short-lived, as Cleveland cut him on Thursday to make room for running back D’Onta Foreman.
Tyler Huntley originally joined the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft. Signing with the Baltimore Ravens, the Utah product spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad. He ultimately made his way into just two games, completing three of his five passing attempts for 15 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Following his relatively unremarkable rookie season, Huntley became Baltimore’s primary backup in 2021. The quarterback was called into action after Lamar Jackson suffered an injury, and Huntley performed as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Appearing in seven games while making four starts, Huntley finished the season completing 64.9% of his passes for 1,081 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.
A similar situation arose in 2022, as Huntley once again made four starts in place of an injured Lamar Jackson. The veteran played well, completing 67% of his passes for 658 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions while adding another 137 yards and a score on the ground. To the surprise of everyone, this was enough to earn him a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Since signing his rookie contract, Tyler Huntley has appeared in 20 games while making nine starts. While on the field, the veteran has completed 64.6% of his passes for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
