San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk, Agree to Massive Contract
Rumors about a Brandon Aiyuk trade have been spreading for quite some time. After a breakout season in which he recorded 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, the wide receiver’s girlfriend and best friend left some hints that the wide receiver did not plan on returning to the 49ers in 2024. When asked about these comments, Aiyuk didn’t exactly slow down the rumors. The 49ers made it to the Super Bowl last year but fell to the Kansas City Chiefs while Aiyuk himself only caught three passes.
Brandon Aiyuk originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona State product made an immediate impact on his team. Appearing in 12 games while making 11 starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 60 receptions for 748 yards and five touchdowns on 96 receptions. Unfortunately, the injury-plagued 49ers could not make it to the playoffs.
After starting the 2021 season in Kyle Shanahan’s doghouse, Brandon Aiyuk came alive in the back half of the year. In total, he played in all 17 games while recording 56 receptions for 826 yards and five touchdowns on 84 receptions. The 49ers made it to the NFC Championship Game before losing in heartbreaking fashion to the Los Angeles Rams.
Now fully established as a key part of the passing attack, Aiyuk hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in 2022. Starting in all 17 games, the wideout recorded 78 receptions for 1,015 yards and eight touchdowns on 114 targets while three different quarterbacks throwing the ball. The 49ers once again lost in the NFC Championship Round when Brock Purdy injured his elbow early in the contest.
