The Carolina Panthers or Baltimore Ravens may pursue top Chargers wide receiver, Quentin Johnston before the upcoming regular season. According to a report, one source believes the Chargers could move on from the wideout since there have been some inconsistent issues in his playing abilities so the team could trade him to get some value in return. The Chargers were hoping the former first-rounder would eventually replace Keenan Allen, especially after departing for the Chicago Bears. As Training Camp is progressing, Johnston is still having challenges, and even rookie Brenden Rice is outperforming him so this is something that new head coach Jim Harbaugh will have to decide.
If Rice continues to shine even as a WR4 alongside receivers like Joshua Palmer and Ladd McConkey then it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Chargers trade Johnston. He has some chance to make the roster but he’s looking on the outside if he continues to struggle this upcoming season. It would be wise for Los Angeles to trade him as soon as possible to avoid any bad investment they make in the long term. He might be able to fit into a different offense since he is still young so he shouldn’t have a hard time finding a new opportunity elsewhere.
The Panthers are in a position to find a replacement soon for Adam Thielen since he’s getting older eventually and it might be wise to trade for Johnston due to his length as well. An investment in Diontae Johnson is a good start but a long-term one in Johnston would be smart. However, the Ravens need a tall playmaker since wideouts like Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor don’t share some long-term relief, especially Agholor on a one-year deal but Johnston might provide stability to keep the corp group together.

Other Potential Trade Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
You can assume the Cowboys’ offense will be struggling this year if they don’t extend CeeDee Lamb‘s contract. They’re hoping to extend him but Lamb isn’t near an agreement even though the Cowboys gave him an offer but he wants more money. The Cowboys have no talent next to nothing behind Lamb since the only reliable receivers are Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert who hasn’t started a full season in a starting role. Dallas may have to consider trading for a big playmaker but for cheap and Johnston may come at a reasonable price.
He isn’t the fastest or strongest but he has the attributes to provide some insurance for receiving depth that doesn’t have anyone other than Lamb and Cooks. No one should expect to see much from Tolbert since this is his first season as a starter. Johnston is still young and it may be because he needs a new fresh start.
Kansas City Chiefs
Johnston would probably fit better in a championship offense since Patrick Mahomes could probably turn any wideout better. Marquise Brown is out with an injury and Rashee Rice will likely miss a couple of games due to an impending suspension. They can’t depend on rookie Xavier Worthy and Kadarius Toney forever so they probably need to make a swing in a decent trade for a wideout that needs a fresh start. You never know how Johnston can improve if he joins another team.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are still in cap hell but they should be able to make a trade for Johnston. It’s only Derek Carr and Chris Olave versus the world so this is something that Dennis Allen can’t take a chance on that. Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry are not long-term starters even though they could improve to prove otherwise. However, Bub Means has the chance to be a proven receiver once he develops after his rookie year.
It’ll take long before it that happens so they might as well trade for Johnston since he’ll likely come for cheap. He might not win the starting position but it gives him another opportunity and the Saints a deep threat.
