Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown Sends 4-Word Message After ‘Dangerous’ Injury

Hollywood Brown is already looking forward to his return to the field with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hollywood Brown’s Kansas City Chiefs tenure got off to an inauspicious start. The former first-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, Brown signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Chiefs during 2024 free agency. He and Patrick Mahomes immediately began working on their chemistry.

But Brown was injured on the very first play of the Chiefs’ preseason opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown, maintaining his high spirits, sent a short message after.

Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown Expected to Miss Time

“God makes no mistakes,” Brown posted on X on August 11.

Brown caught 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, his second season in the desert. He figures to be a key part of a revamped, speedier Chiefs receiver group when healthy.

“Hollywood Brown has that same thing that Tyreek [Hill] had down here actually; a sternoclavicular post dislocation. They’ve taken him to the hospital. They’ll check him out and they’re working on that as we speak,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on August 10.

“I think he’ll miss some time. We’ll just see where it’s at. They’re kind of going through it right now and we’ll know more later on here.”

Hill, now with the Miami Dolphins, missed four games with his injury in 2019.

The Chiefs lost to the Jaguars 26-13. Mahomes – who shared Brown’s post – was 3-for-4 for 27 yards and Chiefs QBs went 22-for-27 for 158 yards in the contest. Undrafted rookie free agent Carson Steele logged the Chiefs’ lone touchdown.

Brown finished the game with one reception for 11 yards, but all attention is on his health.

“SC (sternoclavicular) joint (where sternum or chest meets clavicle or collarbone) dislocation can be very dangerous (esp if displaces posteriorly, towards critical blood vessels). As a result, has to be reduced (re-positioned properly) in hospital with proper visualization. Then time required for ligaments to heal, render joint stable again, typically multiple weeks,” ESPN’s Stephania Bell posted on X on August 10 in reaction to Brown’s injury.

“This is one of those injuries where proper medical assessment immediately is essential. Credit to Chiefs medical staff.”

Brown would miss the rest of the preseason if he followed Hill’s timeline. However, whereas Hill missed four games in 2018, Brown would only miss one regular season contest. All things considered, that is hardly the worst outcome.

Chiefs OL Suffers Knee Injury in Loss to Jaguars

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Brown was not the only player to get banged up in the loss to the Bills. Undrafted rookie free agent offensive lineman McKade Mettauer also emerged worse for wear. McKade … he hurt his left knee, so they’ll evaluate that in the next day or so here,” Reid said. “Other than that I think everybody else uh made it out okay.”

He did note that left tackle Wanya Morris’ absence was as planned.

Reid was also generally pleased with what he saw despite the final score. The Chiefs will regroup and look to put more good than bad on tape next week versus the Detroit Lions before wrapping the exhibition slate versus the Chicago Bears.
