With a few training camp sessions in the books for the Chicago Bears, many are quick to judge the team’s performances thus far. However, both the team and Bears’ fans are brimming with renewed hope and optimism. For what feels like the first time in ages, the Bears appear to have a capable offense that can sustain long drives throughout the season. However, there’s an overlooked aspect of the offense that hasn’t received much attention.
Takeaway From Bears Training Camp No One Is Talking About
Caleb Williams’ Ability to Spread the Football
As a rookie, Caleb Williams is already shattering expectations. Not just in how he carries himself, but also in his performance on the field. In the past, you’d typically hear about one or two receivers balling out during training camp, often due to the quarterbacks’ inability to spread the football. But Williams is changing that dynamic.
Alongside prominent players like D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet, who will be key to the offense, lesser-known players are also getting a chance to shine thanks to Williams’ ability to spread the football. Second-year wide receiver Tyler Scott has balled out so far at training camp, hauling in several deep-ball passes including a 30-plus-yard reception.

Fellow wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. has also benefitted from Williams, catching a touchdown pass in the back left corner of the end zone. Additionally, running back D’Andre Swift has also shown his pass-catching ability, breaking free from Jaquan Brisker which resulted in a touchdown pass.
Air Williams
Most quarterbacks have a special knack with the football. For Williams, he’s been able to showcase his elusive play style and ability to make perfect off-balance throws which has Bears’ fans begging to see more. He made a dazzling off-platform throw to Keenan Allen which resulted in many Bears’ fans dubbing him ‘Air Williams.’ It’ll be a refreshing sight to see after seeing reports that former Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy restricted Justin Fields from leaving the pocket last season.

QB1’s Leadership on Full Display
Like all rookie quarterbacks, they have their struggles early on. Williams’ has struggled at times against a strong Bears’ defense, resulting in interceptions, fumbles, and missed passes. But he’s not letting his mistakes get to his head and continues to be a leader on the team. Newly acquired tight end Gerald Everett had a positive message regarding Williams early impressions on the team.
“He’s a complete pro… I can’t say enough about him. He’s a great guy and an even better football player. He’s very vocal as a NFL quarterback going into his rookie year. He’s not shying away from it and you can tell he’s building his confidence day-by-day.”

There’s been a lot of criticism and judgment regarding Williams ever since college. Whether it’s been the painted nails, crying to his mom after a tough loss, or his outgoing personality, Williams has heard it all. Despite it all, he remains true to himself—a happy, bright, and highly determined young man ready to prove his doubters wrong.
