The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love have agreed to a contract that keeps the former first-round pick under team control for years to come.

Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love has signed a record-setting contract with the organization that took him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the four-year, $220 million deal makes him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history and comes with a staggering $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in guarantees.

Packers, Jordan Love, Agree to Massive Contract

Jordan Love earned this contract following a successful first season as Green Bay’s primary starter. Taking over for Aaron Rodgers, the Utah State product started the season slow and questions grew as to whether or not he could be a legitimate franchise quarterback. Fortunately, Love soon put those questions to bed, guiding Green Bay to a 9-8 record and the seventh seed in the NFC playoff picture.

After sneaking in the playoffs, the Packers become the first seventh seed in history to win a postseason game. Dominating in a 48-32 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay advanced to the NFC Divisional Round and narrowly lost to the eventual NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers. In total, Love started all 17 games while completing 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Jordan Love originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the Green Bay Packers, Love was a surprise selection for a team that most believed would go all-in for the final years of the Aaron Rodgers Era. While Love didn’t directly impact the 2020 Packers, his presence might have revitalized Rodgers. The future Hall of Famer won MVP honors in 2020 and 2021 while making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game in 2020.

Love didn’t play a single snap during his first season in the league and only made one start through three years. Primarily playing in garbage time, Love completed 60.2% of his passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions as Rodgers’ primary backup.
