The Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs may fight over $100 million free agent, Michael Thomas this summer. According to a report, one betting source believes the Dallas Cowboys are favorites to land the veteran before the upcoming 2024 campaign. the 31-year-old was one of the best receivers in the league statistically before injuries were starting to take over his career. However, he still has a lot of gas to give to a roster that still needs an extra option at the wideout position.

Thomas isn’t going to be a starter anymore until he can prove that he can stay healthy and consistent. He set the NFL record with 149 receptions during the 2019 season, posting a league-leading 1,725 receiving yards in addition to nine touchdowns. He isn’t the same player but he gives any team that extra option to keep the wideout position open and in rotation to help relieve some pressure in the pocket for a quarterback. This goes to say that Thomas isn’t the worst option but he isn’t the best opposing to trade candidates like Brandon Aiyuk and Courtland Sutton.

These receivers are what not a lot of teams have cap space for, especially the Chiefs and Ravens. The two teams are one move or step away from having a complete roster in their quest for a Super Bowl. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if any of these teams start making a call for Thomas’ services. However, injuries are always a concern and that’s what has been driving most teams away from offering him a contract this offseason.

The best that he will receive before this upcoming season is a one-year deal to prove that he can still be solid without any injuries. Here are some other potential destinations for Michael Thomas.

Other Potential Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

It wouldn’t be the worst destination considering Justin Herbert is walking into this year without Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Ladd McConkey is the only promising receiver on the depth chart from his showcase at practice but he’s a rookie. Thomas coming in would provide that experience that guys like Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnson are lacking on the depth chart. DJ Chark is a temporary solution but Thomas’ addition should give this offense some stability for the next four years.

New Orleans Saints

The chances of a reunion are slim but it isn’t out of the question. Sean Payton isn’t around anymore so it shouldn’t be an issue for him to come back under Dennis Allen. The Saints have two promising wideouts, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed but they should think about who’s going to fill the No. 3 position. Thomas coming back would be logical in terms of cap space as long as New Orleans knows how to adjust his contract to stick around for one year.

Carolina Panthers

Dave Canales and the team have been doing their homework to provide the best-supporting cast for Bryce Young. The newest additions of Diontae Johnson and Rashaad Penny should buy the second-year quarterback some time in the pocket. However, one more receiver is what they need to solidify this offense if they reclaim a spot in the playoffs again. Thomas may be their final piece to guide them there.
