The Illinois football program is the definition of mediocre. Since John Macovic (1988-1991), no head coach has had a record of .500 or above. In all honesty, records are so bad that they’re not even close, and the program needs serious help. However, that has not stopped the fighting Illini from producing good NFL draft prospects.

Next up is offensive line prospect, Isaiah Adams. Adams started his football career at Garden City Community College and became a top JUCO recruit. He has many offers from medium-level division one programs and is committed to the University of Illinois as a Fighting Illini. Adams was an immediate full-time starter and was a third-team Big 10. Isaiah Adams started all 12 games in his senior and final season and earned all Big 10 honorable mention. Adams displayed power, good football IQ, but did he receive a first-round grade? Let’s dig into the film.

2024 NFL Draft: Isaiah Adams Scouting Report

Adams’s Strengths

  • A well-built, thick frame with solid length, it has a thick lower half that generates good power and displaces defenders.
  • He has a firm anchor that downs opponents. He absorbs power and puts down opponents who try to bull rush him.
  • He has above-average fluidity and quickness to get out of his stance and to the set point in pass protection. He can also perform reach blocks and seal the backside on zone runs.
  • His above-average athleticism helps on pulls and blocks out in space. Adam uses his big body well in space, forcefully demolishing smaller targets.
  • He plays Physically every plan and through the whistle. Has a good mean streak.
  • High football IQ to recognize defensive line twists and stunts. He shows off his talent by being able to stop the penetration and get back outside quickly.
  • Has positional versatility and successful football experience across multiple positions.

Adams’s Weakness

  • He has moments and drives where he plays with a bad pad level. He’s to Upright, which allows defenders to get into his chest.
  • Losing the leverage battle knocks off his balance and takes away his strength, allowing defenders to stack and shed easily.
  • He needs help sustaining blocks and having his feet not come with him when exposed to flags.
  • Being kicked inside could hide this flaw better, but we will need to improve footwork vs great interior rushers.
  • He has good length, but sometimes he Lacks consistency in keeping defenders away from his body and gap pressure.

Projection: Third Round Pick

NFL Comparison: Quinton Spain

Best Fits: Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Bottom Line

The NFL has a desperate need for an interior offensive line. Only a few in this draft are better prospects than Isaiah Adams. He has quick feet, loves the game of football, has good power, and loves to play to the whistle. Adams is a day one average-to-above-average starter who, if he fixes his footwork and technique, WATCH OUT!
