Curtis Samuel, Buffalo Bills, Agree to Contract
While the 2023 season did not go well for the Washington Commanders as a whole, Curtis Samuel himself had yet another solid season. Splitting snaps with Terry McLaurin and former first-round pick Jahan Dotson, the veteran wideout finished the season with 62 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns on 91 targets. The Commanders themselves, however, finished with the second-worst record in football and fired head coach Ron Rivera following the season.
Curtis Samuel originally entered the league as a second-round pick out of Ohio State. Selected by the Carolina Panthers, the shifty wideout had a quiet rookie season, recording just 15 receptions for 115 yards in nine games before an ankle injury sent him to the injured reserve. However, despite the slow start, Samuel eventually established himself as a solid receiver with dual-threat potential.
Samuel returned to the field in 2018 and put up 39 receptions for 494 yards and five touchdowns on 65 targets. However, he finally broke out in 2019, hauling in 54 receptions for 627 yards and six touchdowns on a career-high 105 targets. He followed this up in 2020 by recording 77 receptions for 851 yards and three touchdowns while adding 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 41 attempts.
Following that impressive season, Curtis Samuel signed a new contract with the Washington Football Team. Unfortunately, injuries limited him to just five games, six receptions, and 27 yards. Samuel returned to the field in 2022 and started to play up to his old standards, hauling in 64 receptions for 656 yards and four touchdowns on 92 targets.
Since signing his rookie contract, Curtis Samuel has appeared in 91 games while making 58 starts. While on the field, the wideout has recorded 317 receptions for 3,383 yards and 22 touchdowns on 485 targets.
