Jordan Whitehead, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Agree to Contract
While the New York Jets had a rough season, Jordan Whitehead played well in the final season of his contract. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the safety finished the year with four interceptions, nine passes defended, 0.5 sacks, 97 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and a respectable 68.1 PFF grade. However, despite his strong play, the Jets ensured yet another losing season after Aaron Rodgers went down for the year after just four snaps.
Jordan Whitehead originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Pittsburgh product made an immediate impact on the team. Appearing in 15 games while making 11 starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with four passes defended, 76 tackles, and four tackles-for-loss.
After a relatively down 2019, Whitehead continued to prove he had what it took to start in the NFL. Starting in all 16 games alongside star rookie Antonie Winfield, the safety finished the season with two interceptions, two sacks, 74 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, and three quarterback hits. The Buccaneers themselves had a phenomenal season, as the team hoisted the Lombardi Trophy during Tom Brady’s first season with the club.
Jodan Whitehead entered the final year of his contract as the starting safety in the defense. He held that role throughout the year, recording two interceptions, 73 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and one quarterback hit as the Buccaneers once again made it to the playoffs. However, this time they fell at the hands of the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams.
Now a free agent, Jordan Whitehead signed a new contract with the New York Jets. During his first year in his new NFL home, the safety recorded two interceptions, 89 tackles, and four tackles-for-loss while starting all 17 games.
