Grover Stewart, Indianapolis Colts, Agree to Contract
After Anthony Richardson went down for the season, Grover Stewart helped keep the team competitive in the final season of his contract with strong, reliable run defense. In total, Stewart started 11 games while making 0.5 sacks, 41 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and eight quarterback hits. The Colts narrowly missed the playoffs after losing a Week 18 matchup to the Indianapolis Colts.
Grover Stewart first entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Indianapolis Colts, the Albany State product spent most of his first two years in a reserve role. Appearing in a collective 30 games while making one start, the defensive tackle finished his first two seasons with 40 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and five quarterback hits.
Stewart finally earned a larger role on the defense in 2019 and made the most of the opportunity. Appearing in 16 games while making 13 starts, the former fourth-round pick recorde three sacks to go along with 30 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and five quarterback hits.
Stewart’s best season likely came during the 2022 season. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the Albany state product finished the year with four sacks, 70 tackles, seven quarterback hits, and nine tackles-for-loss, all of which were career highs. Despite the impressive season, the Colts did not make the playoffs and fired head coach Frank Reich midway through the season.
Since signing his rookie contract, Grover Stewart has appeared in 107 games while making 75 starts. While on the field, the former fourth-round pick has recorded nine sacks, 280 tackles, 30 tackles-for-loss, and 35 quarterback hits while providing reliable run defense and clearing up space for linebackers to make plays.
