Five-year veteran edge defender Josh Allen has received the franchise tag. Allen, a former first-round pick and two-time Pro Bowl selection, spent the entirety of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The #Jaguars are expected to place the franchise tag on pass-rusher Josh Allen, and he’s on the books for one year and $24M, source said. No surprise. The team has expressed confidence in getting a long-term deal.

Jaguars Place Franchise Tag On Josh Allen
After four strong years in the league, Josh Allen established himself as an elite pass rusher during the final year of his rookie contract. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the former first-round pick finished the season with 17.5 sacks, 66 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, and 33 quarterback hits. Unfortunately, this strong performance wasn’t enough for this team to make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Josh Allen originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Kentucky product immediately established himself as a threat at the professional level. Appearing in all 16 games, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 10.5 sacks, 44 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 23 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. This impressive debut earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl following the season.
Unfortunately, injuries limited Allen to just eight games in his second season. During his limited time on the field, the pass rusher recorded 2.5 sacks, 13 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and 11 quarterback hits.
Following that disappointing campaign, Allen bounced back with a strong season during the short-lived Urban Meyer Era. Appearing in 16 of a possible 17 games, the former first-round pick recorded 7.5 sacks, 71 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss, and 14 quarterback hits as the team finished the season with the first-overall pick for the second straight season.
The Jaguars activated the fifth-year option on the pass rusher’s contract, and Josh Allen responded with another strong season during his fourth year in the league. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, Allen recorded seven sacks, 57 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, and 22 quarterback hits while helping to guide the Jaguars to their first playoff appearance since the 2017 season.
