Contested Backfields

What a great week of football. This column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less each week. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Here are the Week 14 streamers.

Week 14 Streamers

Quarterback – Gardner Minshew (IND – 23%) @ CIN

It’s starting to get slim on the waiver wire for quarterbacks. Most of our usual favorites have graduated above that 50% roster threshold and are no longer eligible. However, Gardner Minshew is still available and has been playing well lately. This past week he scored 21.68 fantasy points and the week before he scored 15.64 fantasy points. Minshew has topped the 15-point threshold in five of his last seven games. This week he gets a nice matchup as the Indianapolis Colts take on the Cincinnati Bengals. This Bengals secondary has allowed the 12th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and just got lit up by Trevor Lawrence. Even C.J. Beathard had some success against them late in the game. The Colts also currently sit as 2.5-point favorites with a solid 21.5-point implied team total. Minshew, who can also chip in fantasy points with his legs, looks set up to be one of the best Week 14 streamers among quarterbacks.

Honorable Mentions – Will Levis (TEN – 19%) @ MIA, Joshua Dobbs (MIN – 45%) @ LV

Running Back – Tyjae Spears (TEN – 36%) @ MIA

This week it looks like there are two main prizes on the waiver wire at running back. The higher upside (albeit riskier) option is Tyjae Spears of the Tennessee Titans. Spears has been an elite handcuff all season. He’s looked extremely good when he’s gotten a chance and Derrick Henry has looked more human than he ever has in his career. Henry has also gotten banged up a bit and that’s what happened this week. Now there are some questions as to whether Henry is actually in the concussion protocol this week so this is something to monitor. If Henry does happen to miss this week, Spears becomes a must-start fantasy running back. Even if Henry plays, Spears has played as the primary passing-down running back this season for the Titans. Those situations could be plentiful as they take on the Miami Dolphins this week. The Dolphins currently sit as 14-point favorites so Spears could see plenty of targets in this one even if Henry plays making him one of the better Week 14 streamers options at running back regardless.

Honorable Mentions – Ezekiel Elliott (NE – 40%) @ PIT, Ty Chandler (MIN – 22%) @ LV

Wide Receiver – Elijah Moore (CLE – 43%) v JAX

From one player possibly benefitting due to a concussion to another, Elijah Moore stands to see more targets if Amari Cooper isn’t able to clear the concussion protocol this week. He saw 12 targets this week as Cooper left with a concussion. Even still, Moore had been seeing a healthy dose of targets recently anyway. He had seen at least seven targets in four straight games and a total of 35 targets over the last four games now. The production hasn’t always been there, but that’s high-end usage. This week he gets a great matchup as the Cleveland Browns take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this year and just got shredded by Jake Browning. Like Spears, Moore will be better if the top dog misses but looks to be one of the best Week 14 streamers among all wide receivers regardless.

Honorable Mentions – Demario Douglas (NE – 26%) @ PIT, Noah Brown (HOU – 40%) @ NYJ

Tight End – Isaiah Likely (BAL – 35%) v LAR

Like quarterback, the tight end position is getting extremely thin at this point. A guy who was a popular waiver grab two weeks ago looks like one of the best Week 14 streamers among all tight ends. Isaiah Likely has been a guy who has filled in better than most backup tight ends over the past few seasons when Mark Andrews has missed time. In Week 12, Likely looked to be on his way to a very nice game as he caught four of his six targets for 40 yards in the first half. He then proceeded to get blanked in the second half. Likely still met the threshold for being considered a “W” albeit just barely. This week he should be even more involved as the Baltimore Ravens take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are a good defense overall but their biggest weakness is against the tight end position. They have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends this year. They do a great job stopping the run and have strong perimeter corners but that leaves the middle open. That should be much to the benefit of Likely this week.

Honorable Mentions – Cade Otton (TB – 49%) @ ATL, Gerald Everett (LAC – 39%) v DEN
