Patrick Mahomes Dynasty Outlook – Fantasy Football
The History
After sitting for his rookie season, Mahomes has hit the ground running. In his five seasons as a full-time starter, he has been a top-eight quarterback every year. He’s been the QB1 at season’s end twice, and fourth overall twice. Basically, he’s a lock to be a championship-caliber piece in Superflex and 2QB leagues.
A big difference maker for quarterbacks is their job security. Sam Howell and Desmond Ridder could find themselves out of the league quicker than a hiccup. After Mahomes signed his insane contract, he has the most job security of anyone in the NFL not named Roger Goodell (and maybe more than Goodell to be honest). There’s no question about Mahomes talent or job security, but what’s going on around him in Kansas City?
The Situation
Since Mahomes gets the majority of his fantasy points through the air, his weapons are crucial. Travis Kelce is long in the tooth but will continue to be an elite option until he hangs his cleats up. Outside of Kelce, things are pretty bleak. Rashee Rice might be the best receiver on the team, and he’s barely getting 50% of the snaps as he adjusts to the NFL level. Kadarius Toney has been nothing short of disappointing, and Marquez Valdez-Scantling is a WR3 on his best days.
Mahomes Dynasty Fantasy Football Price
While there are many places to get dynasty prices, keeptradecut is crowdsourced and is as close to public sentiment as possible. To make matters easy, Mahomes is the number one quarterback, number one player, and number one asset in dynasty fantasy football. He’s borderline untouchable in most leagues.
What to do With Patrick Mahomes in Dynasty
An article on Patrick Mahomes for dynasty is only as good as its actionable advice. Normally, this is broken down into three situations rebuilding, in the middle, and competing but Mahomes is such a valuable piece the advice is pretty clear. Either consolidate three to four medium pieces and try to tier up to Mahomes from a lesser QB, or trade Mahomes for a QB in the same tier but try to get a first on top.
Patrick Mahomes price makes sense, but when we break it down by PPG he hasn’t been as dominant as his price would show. There’s a reason he was not the number one QB in the 2023 dynasty rankings. Mahomes has been the number one QB in PPG only once (2018) but has been consistently top eight. If a manager can move Mahomes for Josh Allen and a first, Jalen Hurts and a first, or Justin Herbert and a first it would be worthwhile. But given that that entire tier of QBs is almost untouchable, most likely Mahomes is the player that starts and ends on your roster. Do NOT trade Mahomes for depth in any situation.
