Indianapolis Colts Need to Trade for This Wide Receiver

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy could be dealt before the NFL Trade Deadline. The Indianapolis Colts should try to acquire him.
Jerry Jeudy Trade

The Indianapolis Colts could use another wide receiver, and a Jerry Jeudy trade makes sense for the franchise. Jeudy, currently a member of the Denver Broncos, has been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors over the past few weeks.

As the NFL’s trade deadline (Oct. 31) gets closer, the 2-5 Broncos could look to have a fire sale. Denver has already made some moves, trading linebacker Randy Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers and releasing pass rusher Frank Clark. That said, it wouldn’t be shocking if the team also moved Jeudy.

The Colts and Broncos have reportedly had trade discussions about a deal that would ship Jeudy to Indianapolis. A deal, of course, has not materialized yet. Indianapolis needs all the talent they can get, especially since quarterback Anthony Richardson is out for the season due to a shoulder injury.

Indianapolis Colts Should Consider A Jerry Jeudy Trade

College Star, but NFL Disappointment

Jeudy is known mostly for his highly successful collegiate career. The Deerfield Beach, Florida native spent three seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide, developing into one of the best wideouts in the nation. During his freshman season, Jeudy produced 14 catches, 264 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. He later became a huge star, recording 68 receptions for 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore. He caught 77 passes for 1,163 yards and 10 touchdowns in his junior year.

Jeudy won the 2018 Fred Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nation’s top collegiate wide receiver. He also became the second player in Alabama history to post back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. The Broncos then selected Jeudy with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he has been a major disappointment as a pro thus far. In 46 career games, he has posted only 177 catches for 2,517 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jeudy was supposed to break out this season and emerge as Russell Wilson’s top offensive weapon. Plus, the hiring of head coach Sean Payton was expected to ignite his production. However, he has tallied just 20 catches for 222 yards and zero touchdowns. He is also averaging a career-low 44.4 receiving yards per game.

Jeudy has fallen short of living up to his status as a first-round pick. He is clearly being outplayed by fellow 2020 first-round receivers Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, and Brandon Aiyuk.

Why the Colts Should Trade for Jerry Jeudy

Jeudy hasn’t quite lived up to his first-round hype with the Broncos, but the Colts should still consider a trade? For one, he’s immensely talented and only 24 years old. Plus, he possesses the potential to be a solid NFL receiver. Perhaps a trade to the Colts is exactly what Jerry Jeudy needs to kickstart his career . Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes for someone to reach their full potential.

With Richardson unavailable, Gardner Minshew is now the starting quarterback for the Colts going forward. Adding another weapon like Jeudy to go alongside Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Josh Downs could surely help the veteran signal-caller this year. The Colts, who currently own a 3-4 record, have a chance to make the playoffs without Richardson under center. If Jeudy becomes available, the team needs to go out and get him.
