Waiver Wire Week 7 – Jordan Mason, Rashee Rice and More

The hidden gems on the waiver wire Week 7 could make lasting impacts on fantasy squads this season. Who's worth a look?
Waiver Wire Week 7

Injuries, injuries, and more injuries. It’s been a tough season so far with some of the high-flying rookies going down, big-name running backs dropping like flies and even the “safe” wide receivers are dealing with nagging problems. Who are the best waiver wire Week 7 pickups?

Waiver Wire Week 7 – Jordan Mason, Rashee Rice, and More

Jordan Mason, RB San Francisco 49ers

Whoever the 49ers running back is has been extremely valuable for fantasy football for years. That it also happens to be Christian McCaffrey this year has been the icing on the cake. Unfortunately, he is dealing with an oblique injury that could cause problems next Monday. It’s still early but this is a key storyline to watch throughout the week. Elijah Mitchell returned from an injury of his own, and whichever back gets more touches Monday night will be a more than serviceable RB2. Jordan Mason is available in over 90% of leagues on ESPN.

Roschon Johnson, RB Chicago Bears

D’Onta Foreman isn’t it. The Bears get a juicy matchup against the Los Vegas Raiders who have struggled defending the run, and Johnson will finally get his shot to show how talented he is. As Herbert sits on IR, Johnson will have FLEX and RB2 appeal the rest of the way. Roschon Johnson is available in over 55% of leagues on ESPN.

Rashee Rice, WR Kansas City Chiefs

Another week, another recommendation to pick up Rashee Rice. He continues to be the most productive receiver on the Chiefs (other than Travis Kelce) and he will continue to be more and more involved in the offense. The best part? The Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers this week, who have been the worst passing defense in America in 2023. As his snap percentages increase, his targets increase, and for free he’s worth the price. Rashee Rice is available in over 50% of leagues on ESPN.

Quentin Johnston, WR Los Angeles Chargers

Full transparency, this is written before Monday night football tonight. If Johnston plays less than 50% of snaps again, ignore this. But the Fantasy Footballers wrote about the post-bye rookie bump and how it impacts rookies. After bye weeks it’s clear that rookies get more involved, and Quentin Johnston could be the latest beneficiary. Mike Williams is out for the season and the offense is still going to be top ten in the league, so if QJ steals the WR2 mantle he’s fantasy gold. Quentin Johnston is available in over 50% of leagues on ESPN.

Sam Howell, QB Washington Commanders

Next week’s bye weeks are rough. The waiver wire will be important as Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow, and even C.J. Stroud are on a bye in Week 7. Howell has strung together some boom weeks and gets a solid matchup against the New York Giants. There are certainly worse options out there. Sam Howell is available in over 80% of leagues on ESPN.

Taysom Hill, TE New Orleans Saints

It’s an annual tradition at this point to pick up Hill off of waivers. The weird thing is he was tied for the lead in receptions on Sunday instead of gaining points from his usual Slash/Joker role. Any time a tight end catches seven passes they should be on a fantasy radar, and with it being Hill he’s worth a desperation play in Week 7. Taysom Hill is available in over 90% of leagues on ESPN.

Indianapolis Colts D/ST

Are the Browns rolling out P.J. Walker again? Is Deshaun Watson a player to avoid for defense fantasy football strategy? The D/ST playing the Browns is averaging 13.8 fantasy points per game, with no team putting up negative points this season. The Colts D/ST is available in over 85% of leagues on ESPN.

Honorable Mentions:

Jameson Williams, WR Detroit Lions

Zach Evans, RB Los Angeles Rams

Craig Reynolds, RB Detroit Lions

Kareem Hunt, RB Cleveland Browns
