Fantasy Football Week 4 Quarterback Rankings

The top two spots in this week's quarterback rankings are taken by two elite players who will face each other in week four.
Anthony Richardson Lamar Jackson

Week 3 was great for NFL quarterbacks, as 13 different players scored 20 or more points. Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa led the charge, with Herbert scoring 29.3 points and Tagovailoa scoring 28.4 in a 70-20 rout of the Denver Broncos. In the Week 4 quarterback rankings, Tagovailoa ranks second, just behind the quarterback who will be on the other sideline.

Week 4 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

Tier 1: Week Winners

  1. Josh Allen
  2. Tua Tagovailoa
  3. Justin Herbert
  4. Patrick Mahomes

The stout Buffalo Bills defense gives Josh Allen the edge over Tagovailoa in their Week 4 matchup. Allen and Tagovailoa will both be asked to outscore each other, but Miami’s defense has allowed an average of 17.7 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. The Buffalo unit, on the other hand, is first in the NFL and allows opposing signal-callers just 5.7 points per game.

Justin Herbert comes in at a close third in this week’s quarterback rankings. He torched the Minnesota Vikings last week, and the Las Vegas Raiders present a plus matchup. The season-ending injury to Mike Williams slightly lowers Herbert, but he has shown the ability to produce without Williams in the past. Patrick Mahomes has performed very well since Travis Kelce came back, and the best quarterback in the real NFL is still a set-and-forget QB option.

Tier 2: Solid Starters

  1. Jalen Hurts
  2. Anthony Richardson*
  3. Kirk Cousins
  4. Lamar Jackson

Headlining the second tier of quarterback rankings is Jalen Hurts. He has yet to throw more than one touchdown in a game this year, but that is likely to change soon. His rushing ability keeps his floor high, as he has scored three rushing touchdowns in his last two games. Rookie Anthony Richardson looked electric in two games before he missed Week 3 with a concussion. Assuming he returns for Week 4, his rushing value makes him an easy start, even against a tough Los Angeles defense.

The most prolific passer in the NFL this season has been Kirk Cousins, who is yet to have a game with under 340 passing yards or less than two touchdowns. The Carolina Panthers have done a good job at limiting opposing quarterbacks this season, but between Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockensen, and Jordan Addison, Cousins has more than enough weapons to put up a good game. Lamar Jackson is coming off two very strong games, but week one shows that he is capable of a low floor.

Tier 3: Back-end QB1s

  1. Trevor Lawrence
  2. Joe Burrow
  3. Justin Fields
  4. Daniel Jones
  5. Geno Smith

Trevor Lawrence has had a shaky start to the season. However, with the talent that not only he, but his supporting cast possesses, it stands to reason that he will make improvements. It’s a similar story for Joe Burrow. He has been hampered by a calf injury but possesses a top-two receiver duo and is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL. These are two quarterbacks that may soon have much higher spots in the quarterback rankings.

Justin Fields has been very disappointing for fantasy managers this season. Luckily, a game against a Denver defense that just gave up 70 points is a great spot to return to last season’s form. Daniel Jones has shown a high ceiling with a 30-point game this year but also has two sub-five-point performances. Geno Smith has had a very solid last two games and plays a league-average defense in terms of stopping opposing quarterbacks.

Tier 4: Streaming Options

  1. Brock Purdy
  2. Russell Wilson
  3. Deshaun Watson
  4. Jordan Love
  5. Jared Goff
  6. C.J. Stroud
  7. Matthew Stafford
  8. Dak Prescott

Brock Purdy continues to defy the odds of his draft position to be a solid NFL quarterback. Arizona is a great matchup for him to have another big game like he did in Week 3. Russell Wilson has been much better this season than in 2022, and the Chicago defense has given up an average of 24.7 points to opposing quarterbacks. Deshaun Watson had his best game of the season in week three but now has to face a good Ravens defense.  Jordan Love has had over 20 points in every game this season and is starting to make a case to be ranked much higher in the next edition of quarterback rankings.

Jared Goff has been very solid and consistent, but lacks a huge ceiling and goes up against a Green Bay defense that has been above-average this year. C.J. Stroud has had an impressive rookie campaign thus far, but also plays a good defense. Matthew Stafford has been an extremely consistent below-average point scorer but has a decent floor. The Cowboys have been able to win games with their defense and running game this year, and Dak Prescott hasn’t been asked to do much. When he was against Arizona, he still failed to put up a good fantasy performance.

Tier 5: Dart Throws

  1. Andy Dalton
  2. Baker Mayfield
  3. Jimmy Garoppolo
  4. Kenny Pickett
  5. Jameis Winston
  6. Joshua Dobbs
  7. Mac Jones
  8. Sam Howell
  9. Desmond Ridder
  10. Ryan Tannehill
  11. Zach Wilson

Andy Dalton filled in well for Bryce Young but needed over 50 pass attempts to put up a good fantasy day. Baker Mayfield’s inconsistency was on display in Week 3, but he had a very solid first two weeks. Jimmy Garoppolo possesses very little ceiling, as his turnovers have negated many of his touchdowns. Kenny Pickett threw for two touchdowns for the first time in Week 3 but scored under 11 points in his prior two games.

Jameis Winston is making his season debut and has had some big fantasy seasons in the past, but hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2019 for a reason. Joshua Dobbs was much better in Weeks 2 and 3, but Week 1 showed his one-point floor. Mac Jones has a solid floor, but aside from one big game in Week 1, hasn’t shown any ceiling over the last two seasons.

Sam Howell had a good start to the season but looked terrible last week. Desmond Ridder had a 21-point game in Week 2 but scored in the single digits in Weeks 1 and 3. Ryan Tannehill is averaging less than ten fantasy points per game but did score 21 points in Week 2. Zach Wilson has yet to break double-digits in 2023 and occupies the last spot in the Week 4 quarterback rankings.
