Jason Peters, Seattle Seahawks, Agree to Contract
Peters played in 10 games for the Cowboys after signing as a free agent on September 5th. Dallas was in desperate need of veteran leadership at the offensive line position after the injury to Tyron Smith. Smith tore his hamstring and missed most of the 2022 season. With the Cowboys looking to rookie lineman Tyler Smith, Peters was an invaluable asset to bring stability and maturity to the offensive line.
Peters suffered some injuries this season and would miss several games after being activated to the active roster after the start of the season. Despite missing multiple games, Peters played 235 snaps solidifying the young and injury-riddled line. Peters was good for the Cowboys and brought a sense of offensive consistency with zero recorded penalties during the 2022-2023 season.
The former Arkansas Razorback has spent most of his career in Philadelphia. During 11 seasons Peters started 148 out of 148 games played. He had only two seasons where he started less than 10 games for the Eagles, including leading the team to a Super Bowl. Peters has been consistent throughout his career with no more than 11 offensive penalties in one season while playing for four NFL teams.
Peters spent his college career at the University of Arkansas. Arkansas originally recruited him as a defensive tackle. Peters would play platoon for the Razorbacks spending time as a defensive lineman and tight end. Peters’ best season was his junior year where he registered 21 catches for 218 yards and four scores. This performance was worthy of second-team All-SEC.
Peters declared for the draft as a junior weighing more than 320 pounds. He spent his time working towards becoming an offensive lineman in preparation for the draft. He was originally expected to be a fourth-round pick but was ultimately undrafted and signed by the Bills as a free agent. Peters has had an interesting career with turns at every corner. He will bring consistency and maturity to whichever team signs him in free agency during the 2023-2024 season.
