The 2023 NFL Draft is officially in the books, and analysts around the world cannot stop giving out high grades to the Philadelphia Eagles. General Manager Howie Roseman knocked it out of the park once again, running laps around the competition while adding an insane amount of talent to a roster that was already good enough to make a Super Bowl.

Philadelphia Eagles NFL Draft Grades Roundup: Straight A’s

Nate Davis – USA Today: A+

USA Today’s NFL Draft Grades

Davis handed out NFL Draft grades to every single team in the league, and it should come as no surprise that the Eagles finished as head of the class with an A+.  Davis notes that while some may criticize the abundance of Georgia selections, each Bulldog added to the roster was easily the right choice at the time.

While Davis primarily focused on the influx of Georgia talent, he goes on to mention that this draft class should propel the Eagles to yet another Super Bowl appearance. Last time, the team fell 38-35 despite a heroic effort from Jalen Hurts. This time around, all the additional defensive talent might be enough for Philadelphia to take home their second Lombardi trophy.

Rob Maaddi – AP: A+

AP’s NFL Draft Report Card

“Carter, Smith, Ringo plus OT Tyler Steen and S Sydney Brown in the third round and a trade for Swift already make Roseman a favorite for executive of the year.”

Short, sweet, and to the point, Maaddi’s analysis of the Eagles draft says everything that needs to be said. While the Georgia products are obviously great, they weren’t the only smart additions to the roster. Assuming Philadelphia’s roster plays up to its talent level, Roseman probably will win the Executive of the Year Award

Dakota Joslin – Last Word on Sports: 10/10

Philadelphia Eagles NFL Draft Review

Joslin’s perfect score gives the Philadelphia Eagles a clean sweep in the NFL Draft grades. The analysts gives further analysis, calling out Jalen Carter as the best player of the bunch while also applauding Roseman’s ability to get arguably the best talent in the draft and only having to sacrifice a 2024 fourth-round pick for the honors.

The lone questionable decision in Philadelphia’s draft was the decision to select quarterback Tanner McKee on Day 3. Joslin points out that the Eagles already have a proven backup quarterback in Marcus Mariota and an athletically-inclined developmental prospect in Ian Book. McKee obviously isn’t going to compete to start, and he’ll probably have a tough time beating out an established veteran in Marcus Mariota for the backup job. What’s extra confusing is that McKee isn’t an athletic dual-threat like Hurts and Mariota. If worst comes to worst and McKee sees the field, Philadelphia will have to run an entirely different offense.

However, even with that spelled out, Joslin admits that “there’s not much to pick apart with the Eagles 2023 NFL Draft class”. Roseman loves drafting quarterbacks and, chances are, this was just a case of him selecting the best player left on the board. For what it’s worth, Tanner McKee was a decent prospect that just happened to play in a terrible environment. There is a real chance that he could play even better at the NFL level with a competent supporting cast.
