Darius Slayton Signs New Contract With New York Giants

Darius Slayton had a solid bounce-back season in 2022 after fading heavily the year before. In fact, he appeared to be a possible cut candidate during the offseason, but he held onto his roster spot and got the opportunity to step up again after the Giants receivers had various injuries (or, in a case like Kenny Golladay, just wasn’t producing at all). He finished with 46 receptions for 724 yards and two touchdowns – on par with his first two seasons.

Slayton played college football with Auburn from 2016 to 2018. His best year with them came in 2018 when he had 35 receptions for 670 yards and five touchdowns. He was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round in 2019. He developed a rapport with quarterback and fellow rookie Daniel Jones, pulling in 48 receptions for 740 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the Giants in receiving for the year. His best game came when he pulled in five receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2020 he slightly upped his numbers, pulling in 50 receptions for 751 yards (both career-highs) and three touchdowns. He had a strong game in the season opener, pulling in six catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns – though he failed to keep that momentum going scoring-wise, as he caught only one more touchdown all year.

In 2021 Slayton struggled more – as did the whole offense, but he slipped down the depth chart and ultimately had just 26 receptions for 339 yards and two touchdowns, thus partially resulting in the aforementioned question of whether he would even make the 2022 roster. However, he did do that and bounced back, and will be looking to keep the momentum going in 2023.

Thus far in his career, Slayton has 170 receptions for 2,554 yards and 15 touchdowns.
