Allen Lazard, New York Jets, Agree to Contract
Allen Lazard enters free agency on the heels of his most impressive season to date. Taking over as the top option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the passing attack following the departure of Davante Adams, the former undrafted free agent finished the season with 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns on 100 targets. The catches, yards, and targets were all career highs, and the touchdowns were second only to the eight he hauled in during the 2021 campaign.
Lazard originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. Signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lazard did not make the Week 1 roster and instead spent most of the year with their practice squad. However, in late December, the Packers signed Lazard off Jacksonville’s practice squad, and the rest is history. Ultimately, he appeared in just one game as a rookie, hauling in his lone reception for seven yards.
The Iowa State product remained with Green Bay in 2019 and appeared in every single game while making three starts. While on the field, Lazard recorded 35 receptions for 477 yards and three touchdowns on 52 targets. Lazard played a similar role in 2020, finishing the season with 33 receptions for 451 yards and three touchdowns on 46 targets. It’s worth noting, however, that he managed to do all that in just 10 games.
The Packers signed Allen Lazard to an exclusive rights free agent contract prior to 2021, and Lazard rewarded that faith with another strong season. Appearing in 15 games while making 13 starts, the Iowa State product recorded 40 receptions for 513 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 60 targets.
