Nate Davis, Chicago Bears, Agree to Contract
Nate Davis enters free agency on the heels of what could easily be the best season of his professional career. While injuries limited him to just 12 games, the guard played well when on the field, showing notable growth as a pass blocker to go along with his usual impressive work in the run game. According to Pro Football Focus, Davis finished with a 70.6 overall grade, good for the 17th-best mark out of 78 eligible players.
Davis originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tennessee Titans, the Charlotte product needed some time before he was ready to play in the NFL. Davis was a healthy scratch for the first three weeks of his rookie season, but made his debut in Week 4 and earned the starting guard job in Week 5. From there on, Davis helped pave the way for Derrick Henry to have one of the best running back seasons in recent memory. The Titans made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game before falling to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Davis held on to the starting guard job in 2020 and continued his impressive work in the run game. Derrick Henry had his best season, running for a league-high 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns on 378 carries, and Davis’ blocking played a role in that success. The Titans themselves went 11-5 and won the AFC South.
Injuries limited Davis to just 14 games in 2021, but he still remained a strong run blocker. Since signing his rookie contract, Nate Davis has appeared in 55 of a possible 66 games and has held a starting position since early 2019.
