The 2022 NFL season is over, which means it’s time to start looking at early bets for the upcoming season. Vegas recently released their odds for the 2023 NFL MVP, and six quarterbacks have emerged as clear favorites.

6 Favorites Emerge For 2023 NFL MVP
1. Patrick Mahomes (+700)
No surprise here – the best quarterback in football is in a three-way tie as the favorite to win the 2023 NFL MVP. What can be said about the Chiefs quarterback that hasn’t already been said? When he’s at his best, there is nobody that can match his ability. Even if he does have the best tight end and head coach in football, there is no denying Mahomes’ insane talent. Until proven otherwise, you should never bet against the two-time MVP and Super Bowl champion.

2. Josh Allen (+700)
If there is one quarterback in the league capable of matching Patrick Mahomes at his best, it’s Josh Allen. While a mid-season elbow injury hampered his final numbers, the Buffalo Bills passer put together some of the best football of his career early in the 2022 season. Now that he’s completely healthy, he should be able to give Patrick Mahomes a run for his money in 2023, provided the team adds another offensive weapon to his arsenal.
3. Joe Burrow (+700)
After a slow start to the 2022 season, Joe Burrow came alive in the final few months and established himself among the elite quarterbacks in the game. Armed with a proven head coach and two great weapons in Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow is in the perfect situation to win the MVP if Mahomes has a down year in 2024.
4. Justin Herbert (+900)
After dealing with perhaps the worst play-calling in the league last year, Justin Herbert is finally getting an offensive coordinator worthy of his talents. Joe Lombardi tried to turn the big-armed passer into Alex Smith, which was a fireable offense. Kellen Moore proved his worth in Dallas and should be a massive upgrade for Herbert and the Chargers offense. Now that he has an offensive coordinator capable of scheming to his strengths, don’t be surprised if Herbert ends up winning the award. In this writer’s eyes, his odds should be just as good as Allen and Burrow.

5. Jalen Hurts (+1200)
After finishing the 2023 season with arguably the best performance in a Super Bowl loss ever, quarterback Jalen Hurts enters the offseason with the fifth-best odds of taking home MVP honors. It’s hard to argue with the placement here, as the 2022 MVP runner-up has clearly established himself as one of the best young passers in football. There are two main reasons he’s not higher: for one, he’ll have a new offensive coordinator, and it’s highly unlikely that Brian Johnson will be as good as Shane Steichen. Second, the Eagles will face a harder schedule next year, so Hurts might not be able to put up the same numbers.
6. Lamar Jackson (+1300)
Perhaps the most interesting name on this list, Lamar Jackson is one of the favorites to win the 2024 NFL MVP, but will he win it as a Raven? As of this posting, the two sides are still in the midst of negotiating a long-term contract and there is a chance Baltimore trades Jackson for a king’s ransom if the two sides cannot agree to terms. Jackson was playing like an MVP last year before injuries took their toll, and if he can stay healthy, he should be one of the finalists next year as well.
